Listening, speaking, reading and writing are four basic abilities to utilize a language. However, the skills of reading and writing are becoming more and more important in today’s world where we are experiencing the information explosion. If we want to attain a desirable job and keep up with the fast developing world, the literacy skills are indispensable.

First of all, the industrialization makes the pace of our lives faster while the globalization makes the world smaller and countries more interdependent. As a consequence, people today are inundated by a dramatic amount of information, most of which is spread by written words on the newspaper and Internet. So the literacy skills are necessary for us to acquire the various information actively rather than passively. What’s more, the skills can also help us winnow truth from falsehood. On the contrary, in the past, people usually live in a relatively closed area where the information spread among the neighborhood is enough. In this case, whether a person can read is not so important.

In addition, people in the traditional society usually acquire some certain skills or knowledge by experiences or are taught verbally, which seems impossible today. For example, different kinds of high-tech products are emerging in an endless stream. We cannot read the instructions to learn to use them without the literacy skills. Besides, more and more people today leave their hometown to get higher education or search for good job opportunities, which is further facilitated by the development of transportation. Those who possess to literacy would find it easier to adapt themselves to a different environment while those who do not hold the ability may feel frustrated, since they even cannot read the map to find the proper way.

Furthermore, nowadays, since the competition is increasingly intense, a strong capacity of reading and writing means efficiency. For a student, if he has a better reading skill, he can attain a higher score in the examination.
For an employee, the ability to read and write is now almost the prerequisite in work, without which a worker can neither properly understand the work task, nor write a report. Even in less sophisticated jobs, the literacy skills can bring you dramatic benefits. Take my grandparents as an example. My grandparents are both illiterate who make a living by doing farm work. But now they feel more and more difficult to do the farm work with the development of agricultural modernization, since they cannot well understand and apply the advanced knowledge and technology without the literacy skills. So the ability to read and learn is essential for self-improvement.

To sum up, since the ability to read and write can help us acquire more information timely and accurately, learn faster and better adapt to the fast pace of life, it is more and more important to keep us in the leading position in today’s world.

语言流畅，论点清晰，可以在某一段再点一句，读写确实是越来越重要了。。。其他我觉得好像就没什么问题了
