刚开始练习,前面太懒了,问题肯定无数,望能够得到指点。非常感谢
TOPIC: ISSUE54 - "History teaches us only one thing: knowing about the past ca
nnot help people to make important decisions today."
WORDS: 528          TIME: 0:45:00          DATE: 2007-3-27

The speaker makes a broader assertion that knowing about the past can not h
elp people to make important decisions today based on what he has learnt from
history teachers. However, the speaker unnecessarily extends this assertion to
the view that anything happened in history is of no value for the decision-ma
king today is undoubtedly unjustifiable. On balance, we human being should tak
e a cross-bencher position between the two controversial views.
History is the record of what was happened in reality sometime ago which i
s never changed by the human's will or other influential factors, it is absolu
tely the reflections of truth. Napoleon has ever dominated France in history a
nd this mere fact can not be changed by the human in 21st century unless scien
tists invented the "time machine" that only exist in fiction story and we can
use it to go back to the past times. Years after years, the huge records of th
e reality made by the historians in different times, different countries have
formed the biggest wealth for human to understand what has happened in the pas
t.
Time changes, people change, nature changes, and the society changes due to
the fast development of technology and other factors as well, this unconverti
ble change has dramatically make the world nowadays vary from any other world
we human has ever been. Thus, something happened in the past that looks simila
r with what has happened nowadays is different in essence, for this reason, we
can not make important decisions now by taking the example human has ever suc
cessfully used before. For instance, on the threshold of the 20st century many
big companies such as Ford has adopted the pipelining policy in order to incr
ease the working efficiency, further more, any worker is only responsible for
only one part of the work, but this is not feasible nowadays because this poli
cy has deeply suppressed the innovation and working enthusiasm of the workers.
Then, maybe it is the same circumstances in history but it is not plausible n
owadays.
On other hand, in some cases we can not efface the referenced effect of the
history on the decisions-makings in the society today. Admittedly, the histor
y is what we human has ever experienced in the past then something happened in
history is very important for the people nowadays. A case in point is that th
e classic theory of Confucius, the famous philosophy 2500 years ago, which art
iculated the way of learning in detail. In addition, the fact that the theory
developed by Confucius is put on a supreme position in the education today has
already proved this theory is very beneficial for the students' learning. Any
other so-called magnificent learning method just pales the importance in the
comparison of the classic and traditional theory.
In the final analysis, what the speaker asserts is only accurate to some ex
tent because he should not push this view to an absolute position. History is
the loyal record of what is happening in the past, and further more, not in ev
ery case we can put the similar event or theory in history to the referenced e
xample in our important decisions-making, also, in other cases history is the
best materials for us to make the decisions today by learning the experiences
of the old people. To sum up, history is a double-edged sword, whether it coul
d be used in the decisions-making is largely based on the different and specif
ic circumstance.
