综合写作 TPO13

The lecture completely refutes the readingmaterial. It is said in the lecture that, private collection of fossils actsmuch more positive effects on fossils rather than the three negative pointsmentioned in passage.

Contrary to the belief that the privatecollectors may keep fossils in their own museum and not allow the public gettouch with, the speaker pay more attention on the exposure during purchase. Thespeaker believes that the purchase behavior around fossils may attract thepublic focus and no every collector would keep the fossils secretly.

The lecture also refutes that scientistscannot get access to some important fossils that contain scientific meaning. The speaker underlines that the choice of a collector to decide whether he buya fossils or not is decided by the scientific judgments. That means scientificidentify goes before purchase.

The speaker also provides another reason tocontradict the belief that commercial fossil collectors always destroy or ignoresome valuable scientific. The discoveries made by commercial fossils is kind ofcontribution already no matter how they deviate the scientific methods. If thecommercial fossil collectors do not try to explore those fossils, thescientists from museums and universities cannot find them either. Therefore, the fossils private collectors find make a contribution to archeology as sameas those scientists.

Do you agree or disagree with the followingstatement:

Parents should allow children to make theirown choices rather than determine their childrens future for them.
(Family)

Recently, I watched an Indian movie, namedThree Idiot. There is a tough teacher in that movie, and he teachesengineering. In that strict teacher's family, his children were immediatelydetermined their future as soon as they were born. Girls should be doctors andboys should be engineers as their father. However, the teacher's son committedsuicide after being rejected by the most famous engineering university in Indiafor the second time. I felt so pity for the son, because he wanted to be awriter but never dared to talk to his father. Therefore, children's futureshould be handled by themselves, and their parents should never impose theirdecisions on their children.

Nobody can deny that parents have much morelife experiences, and their judgments are always correct and effective. Obeyingparents' choices may be a short cut to success to some extent; however, Iadmired personal life travel more. To grow up to be an adult, an individualmust go through frustration and even defeats and obtain their own views on theworld around them. Parents actually are not aware of the environment amongchildren detailly, such as his friends, interests. Only by personal feeling andinstinct can children make a most suitable choice for themselves.

Designing future for children may also damagethe creativity of children. If people what they would be like ten years or eventwenty years later, they may lose their courage and hope. For children, theywould like draw their own picture on a white sheet rather than copying a perfectone. Therefore, parents can encourage and provide advice for their children tomake a better choice, but should never take their choice away.

Another reason that I agree with that parentsshould let children make personal choice is that parents may not always besidechildren. If children are used to be controlled by their parents and neverworry about considering problems, once their parents were gone, there is no onethat they can rely on. Allowing children to make their own choice is a quiteeffective way to teach them to be independence.

From the movie I just mentioned in the firstparagraph, the father ultimately recognized that it was his stubburn thatdestroyed his son and never forced his grandson to be an engineer. The endingof that movie was not so realistic. Parents always try to make their childrenwalk along the track they design in this competitive time. However, the trackmay come from love but lead to tragedy.

TPO12

The lecturer talks about the unconfirmedfactors of a portrait of a teenage girl that is considered to be Jane Austen. He says that the reasons stated in the passage were inaccurate and somewhatunfounded.

First, the reading material argues thatAusten’s family confirmed that the girl in the portrait was Austen. The speakerdoubted that the Austen families made the judgment in 1882 which is almost 70 yearsafter Austen died. Actually, nobody in this family had ever seen Austen, notmention when Austen was a teenager. Therefore, the confirmation wasunsubstantial.

Secondly, the speaker argues that the face inthe portrait may belong to a relative of Austen who resembles Austen. TheAusten family is large; a female cousin of Austen may leave a portrait insteadof Austen. People cannot exclude such kind of possibility.

Thirdly, the reading passage concludes thatOzias Humphrey may be the painter of the portrait just through similar style. Thespeaker cannot agree with this point because the painting has no title andsign. The most important evidence is that the canvas of this painting cannotbought in the location where young Austen lived. The businessman who purchased thiskind of canvas only sought in that place when Austen was already 27 years old. Thus, the teenage girl in portrait may not be Austen at all.

Through my personal experiments, I totallydisagree with the view that influential people or potential employers who knowa person's strength or accomplishments can make sure about that person'ssuccess. In this competitive world, there are so many excellent people in thesame level. Even influential people in different fields or potential employers obtainall those information which is beneficial to you; it also cannot guarantee thatyou can win the competition.

First, people consider many factors beforemaking judgments. A potential employee's character and first impression arealso as important as strengths and accomplishments, because the employers wantto know whether this person is the most suitable one to this position. Take mefor example, I was rejected by a famous reserch institude after interviewrecently, although I did excellently in my major and have got much more reserchexperience than any other competitors. However, I heard a surprising reasonfrom the interviewers that I was not active enough. But actually, I got a feverthat day I attended interview and I could not show so energetic as usual. Insum, the direct communication plays a more important role rather than a excellentresume during a interview.

Secondly, nobody can deny that a person getsmore chance to success if those influential people and potential employers knowhis or her strength. However, on the opposite side, if they do not know, aperson also has a ticket to success. To value a person, one should considerboth his strengths and disadvantages. If I am an employer, I would consider thefailure experience a person has got, because the ability to solve problems and toreconstruct confidence is necessary to success.

Thirdly, making sure that influential peopleor potential employers know a person's strength purposely may have negativeeffect. Some people may admire modest employers more. Showing around strengthsand accomplishments is rude, especially before interview. The essential qualityand cultivation inside a person may take more important part in success.

In conclusion, acknowledge of a person'sstrengths and successful experiments can add the possibility to success, butnever guarantee success. There are many other factors should be taken intoconsideration.

Do you agree or disagree with thefollowing statement? Governments should pay more attention to health-careissues than environmental issues.
Nowadays, governments donate billions ofdollars into both environmental items and health-care issues. However, Iconsider that public health should take more important place than environmentalproblems in governments' budget. There're several reasons that can elucidatethis argument.

First, some people may argue thatenvironmental problems may partially be the cause of health problems, thusgovernments should place their focus on the source of this issue. However, Ithink the current happenings are more urgent. Take SARS for example, in 2003,SARS attacks more than ten thousand people. Governments immediately establishhospital system concentrated on this kind of illness. So the damage ultimatelycan be controlled. If governments pay more attention on the long-termenvironmental problems at that time, such as pollution, there are may be morecasualties of acute diseases. Thus, governments should pay more attention tothe health problems.

Secondly, there are also many long-termdiseases which potentially exist in human bodies such as HIV. If governments donot establish a complete system of examination and remedy, the outcomes mayturn to be disastrous. However, the research of such kind of illness is costlyand nonprofits. Only the governments can afford and organize institutes toconcentrate on these diseases.

Last but not the least, only by protectingthe welfare of current generation, governments can receive support. Nobody candeny that protecting environment benefit the future of humankind. However, governments' duty should place more on daily life. There are millions ofchildren cannot get sufficient nutrition in Africa. There are millions ofpeople being killed by cancer every year. There are also millions of peoplecannot get medical remedy in undeveloped countries. Thus, with limitedresource, governments should underline these realistic problems.

In the nutshell, I cannot agree more withthat governments should pay more attention to health-care issues, for healthproblems are more urgent, costly and realistic.

The reading passage is about the advantagesof salvage logging. It contends that salvage logging would help recovery offorests, cut down the quantity of insects and make economic benefits and morejob chances. However, in the lecture, the professor argues that each benefitsare questionable and unsubstantial.
In the first place, according to thereading passage, removing damage trees can avoid the long decomposing periodthey need and growing new trees instead can accelerate the recovery of forest. However, according the professor, cleaning up dead trees is unnecessary, because the decomposition of dead trees can supply soil with rich nutrition forthe growth of future generation. Thus, the removing work can lead to lack ofnutrition in soil and retard the speed of recovery. This is the firstcontradiction between the reading and listening material.
Secondly, the reading passage argues thatdead trees may be habitats of insects, which would have negative impact on thehealth of forest. Ironically, the professor points out those insects havelong-term benefits for forest instead. They all take important parts in biologysystem of forest. Thus, the rotting trees turn to be native dwellings forinsects. This is the second place where lecture weakens material’s point.
Finally, the reading content claims thatsalvage logging can provide damaged trees for factory and create more positionsfor local residents. But the professor raises the idea that the recycle ofdamaged wood may require high-tech and costly equipment like helicopter, andthose jobs would temporary and limited just for local people. This is the lastplace that lecture goes directly against the reading material.

Secondly, the reading passage argues thatdead 9trees may be habitats of insects, which would have negative impact on thehealth of forest. Ironically, the professor points out those insects havelong-term benefits for forest instead(好像只是说部分还是一种吧,如果说所有的话,未免太绝对了).

三段都是阅读材料—听力材料-听力反对阅读的结构,如果某一段换个结构,我感觉会使全文看起来更灵活一些
