TOPIC: ISSUE40 - "Scholars and researchers should not be concerned with whether their work makes a contribution to the larger society. It is more important that they pursue their individual interests, however unusual or idiosyncratic those interests may seem."

Many people choose to a academic life in their future, but why they make the choice, merely based on individual interests? Hardly can I agree with it. In my view, the ambition to make contributions to the society as a whole should be the first consideration to do researches.

Humans are basically social animals, people work together as a society, and the objective of any occupations is to make the world a better place to live. Although jobs should meet the basic need ----to earn money to buy food and houses, beyond this, any job position acts as part of the social machine to help it run well. For example, worker contribute to the society for their products, from furniture to cars; farmers work hard to provide food to the society, which help everyone to live; politics act as leaders to make harmony in society; business man help the exchanging process to make a more comfort world. What should scholars and researcher do? Just follow their personal interests to inquiry some idiosyncratic areas, not matter useful or not? That seems unfair to other occupations. In fact, scholars and researchers work as the brain of the society, which help all fields to enhance the productive, to solve the problems and balance the interests, with which, our society can be better in the future. For example, the most important scholar in China is YUAN long ping, who invent a new way to plant rice and raise the productive three times more than before, which solve the biggest problem in China-----to meet the basic need of the large population. Also, he makes great contributions to the whole world----as a large society---- to decrease the population of starving. For sure, he is regarded as one of the greatest scholars around the world.

Moreover, any subjects or fields will attract someone, some non-stream areas, like fortune-telling, astrology as have its fans. As individual interests, these areas seem interesting and any one what to know the unknown future----as the instinct. Yet, it is totally unnecessary to regard these areas as academic fields for inquiry. Any way, these fields not benefit the society, or even do harm to it. If people tend to believe the fortune-telling, no one will work hard to achieve goals; instead, they will depend on luck to get money and happiness, which seems really ridiculers. Denying the old saying as” no pains, no gains”, they society will loose competition and achieve nothing at last. It is a terrible result that no one would want to see. Therefore, to avoid this situation, scholars and researchers should concern with the contributions to the society rather than the pursuit of individuals interests when to choose a subject.

In fact, in today's modern society, it is possible to combine the personal interests with the concern of the contributions to the large society. For example, I was interested in law and the inquiry of law area surly contributes to our modern life. To pursue an individual interest, one will find the inner power of him and helps to overcome the difficult in future; anyway, academic road is not that easy. What’ more, the consideration of the contribution to the society acts as the outside spur to him----the need of the society, which will also encourage him to achieve success.

In sum, the consideration of the contributions to society comes first when any one choose an academic life, anyway, we live in the society and have the responsibility to build it a better place to live. Also, engaged one’s individual interest helps him to find the inner power which lead to success. Therefore, the best answer is combining the two, to any scholars or researchers.

to 去掉,或者choose to lead an academic life academic life in their future, but why should they make the choice, merely based on individual interests? Hardly can I agree with it. In my view, the ambition to make contributions to the society as a whole should be taken as the first consideration to do researches.

Humans are basically social animals,
;(改为分号) people work together as a society, and the objective of any occupations is to make the world a better place to live. Although jobs should meet the basic need (needs)----to earn money to buy food and houses, beyond this, any job position acts as part of the social machine to help it run well. For example, worker(s) contribute to the society for their products, from furniture to cars; farmers work hard to provide food to the society, which help everyone to live; politics act as leaders to make harmony in society; business man help the exchanging process to make a more comfort world. What should scholars and researcher do? Just follow their personal interests to inquiry some idiosyncratic areas, not matter(no matter) useful or not? That seems unfair to other occupations. In fact, scholars and researchers work as the brain of the society, which help all fields to enhance the productive(这一句,fields enhance the productive?应该主语是人吧), to solve the problems and balance the interests, with (the help of) which, our society can be better in the future. For example, the most important scholar(最重要的,主观有点极端,我觉得改个one of ……的比较好,个人意见哈) in China is YUAN long ping, who invented a new way to plant rice and raise the productive three times more than before, which solve the biggest problem in China-----to meet the basic need of the large population. Also, he makes great contributions to the whole world----as a large society---- to decrease the population of starving. For sure, he is regarded as one of the greatest scholars around the world.(这一段例子很好,从正面证明了论题,前面从职业的引入几个层面上很有想法,要是前一部分和后一部分再精简一点就好了^_^)

Moreover, any subjects or fields will attract someone, some non-stream areas, like fortune-telling, astrology as have its fans.(
句式有点乱) As individual interests, these areas seem interesting and any one what to know the unknown future----as the instinct. Yet, it is totally unnecessary to regard these areas as academic fields for inquiry. Anyway, these fields not benefit the society, or even do harm to it. Therefore, to avoid this situation, scholars and researchers should concern with the contributions to the society rather than the pursuit of individuals interests when to choose a subject.(前面都是讲的people,这里笔锋一转谈到scholar and researcher,觉得有些唐突…)

In fact, in today's modern society, it is possible to combine the personal interests with the concern of the contributions to the large society. For example, I was(am) interested in law(s) and the inquiry of law area surly contributes to our modern life. To pursue an individual interest, one will find the inner power of him and helps to overcome the difficult(ies) in future; anyway, academic road is not that easy. What’ more, the consideration of the contribution to the society acts as the outside spur to him----the need of the society, which will also encourage him to achieve success.
(观点甚好,内外两个方面对一个人的成才有帮助)

In sum, the consideration of the contributions to society comes first when any one choose an academic life, anyway, we live in the society and have the responsibility to build it a better place to live. Also, engaged one’s individual interest helps him to find the inner power which lead to success. Therefore, the best answer is combining the two, to any scholars or researchers.
(结合看你第一段最后一句自己的观点,是不是有点conflict呢?)

下次还是把提纲列出来吧,这样子的话改起来思路清晰:
我来总结一下你的思路吧:
观点:In my view, the ambition to make contributions to the society as a whole should be taken as the first consideration to do researches.
1.
