How could one achieve theory in fields of science and other academic fields? It's true that facts compose the fundamental of the summary, thus it's important to rely on the data in concluding and theorizing, if data could be attained. However, in my opinion, it's not necessary to restrict one from constructing theory until he or she gets enough data, and even sometimes the process might have nothing to do with data at all for certain fields.

It's true that necessarily through data that one could prove certain theory. For theory is somehow conclusion and explain for phenomena, it's necessary for the theory to reconcile with the fact. Data is the most reliable and precise description of phenomena thus revealing the fact most effectively. Without being tested by experiments and the comparison with the data, the conclusion of the theory would remain hypothesis in the air indicating nothing. It's especially the case in the fields of science like physics and chemistry, where the conclusions are also based on the data gained from measurement and experiment. Thus for the fields especially those focusing on objective matters, the theories must rely on data.

However, attaining data calls for material conditions and time thus it's difficult to get all the data in a short time while the process of reasoning and assuming could be completed quickly thus the widespread method is to construct theory first then test it when the conditions are met. After all, just waiting is a waste of time while constructing theory is also a process calls for intension focus and pondering. It's no harm to prepare alternative and guess before the truth is revealed. For instance, the relative theory proposed by Einstein is such a theory calls for high speed out of confront of technological conditions at that time and is still enduring test recently. Even though the theory is based on mere conclusions of electric theory, which could also be assumption because the theory in itself is also assumption, and no data is attained by Einstein, the greatness of the theory is recognized by the field of physics.

What's more, some fields concerning the world of emotion like literary, painting, and music have almost nothing to do with data thus the it's ridiculous to require people majoring these professionals to have data first before theorizing. After all, these fields are almost concerned with good or bad rather than right or wrong, no objective standards could and should be proposed for evaluation in those fields concerning subjective inclination. For example, the analysis of the psychology is hard to get data because the emotion could hardly be measured and description precisely and the conclusion could only be draw by subjective estimation. Thus, for the fields where measurement is hard or ought not, to carry out, the theories could necessarily be proposed by reasoning or creativity of the experts rather than data.

In conclusion, the significance of data, as long as data exists, is manifest for its reliability and authority, however, there's no necessity to wait for data before theorizing.
