[B]All nations should help support the development of a global university designed to engage students in the process of solving the world's most persistent social problems. [/B]


Today the world is undergoing a process of globalization, starting with military, developing in economy and further in politics, it is much possible that one day all the human beings will live comfortably in a global village. But at the same time, we will no doubt encounter many problems facing by all the residents in the world. What should we do to solve these problems? Will a global university be proper and useful? Since there are already many global organizations, I'm considering that there is no such need to develop a worldwide university.

All problems have their causes, no matter how serious or trivial they are. So it is the world's most persistent social problems facing by human beings. While they appear as a global one, the causes to such problems can be found in the nations around the world. For example, the problem of the hole in the ozonosphere, which is caused by excessive omission of greenhouse gases, the cause of which can be further put under concern of some industrialized nations. Careful examination has informed us that since some of those countries omit a major percentage of the total quantity of the greenhouse gases and what's worse, they are reluctant to impose legislation on such behavior, the problem is getting worse and worse.  For ozone problem and other similar ones, what matters is that those nations who contribute a lot in causing them try to learn means to solve them and further control actions which lead to the occurrence of those problem, but not support in developing a global university to handle them.

In addition, some problems we are facing today are quite critical, which without immediate proper cure would likely lead to disaster, then which one should be the priority when deciding putting effort on between try to solve or study ways to solve those critical problems as soon as possible and help support a global university in the hoping of its graduates someday will bring us the final solution when we have already been defeated by those problems? Of course the first one. Take the environmental problems again as an example. In many areas throughout the world, a lot of rivers are now so smelly that people can hardly stand on the bank for more than a few seconds, while a great amount of fish swimming happily in the same rivers just a few years ago. Such problem is caused by pollutant poured in by nearby factories, and continue in this trend will make the area a moor on which no one can live. If this problem is not or start to be handled, what the graduates of the proposed global university would likely to see poor lands deserted by residents. Concerning the criticality of such problems, immediate effort should be placed on the solution to them, rather a global university which is possibly slow in development.

Finally, there do exist some problems which cannot be solved by any single nation that persist long after the 20th century. For example, the population of the world has steadily increased after the Second World War. While now there are more than 6 billions, an estimate is done indicating that there will be more than 10 billions at the mid of the century. This is a common enemy of the human race, since excessive population will possibly lead to running out of energy, over-consumption of foods and deteriorating in the environment. Yet no country has found a proper way to solve this problem. Thus we need the cooperation of all nations. But even to this extent, a global university is still critical needed since there are already many global organizations and what's more, an organization trying to unite all the nations, the UN. Since the UN has many superiorities in access to data and events, it will do well for all the nations to cooperate in dealing with the population problem and other similar ones under the leadership of the UN. Thus a global university would not be need.

In sum, nations around the world should devote their effort to the immediate solving of many of world's most persistent problems with their national boundary, or cooperating with others while under the supervision of the many existing global organizations when it comes to some of the problems, the solutions of which are beyond their abilities. A global university, on the other hand, would possibly contribute to the delay of solving those problems and thus is not needed.
