As the development of computer science and technology, everyone has the opportunity to get enough information from the internet. So it seems that most people could learn as much as, even more by studying and reading on their own for four years than by pursuing a university. However, the knowledge learning from a college is not just the sentences printed in the papers, but also the knowledge can not be written on the papers.

First of all, I concede that the intellectual benefits of attending a university or college are vastly overrated. People could read the same books as the students in the university, and then they could get the same knowledge from the books. There are a lot of examples to substantiate one can learn well by themselves in the history. And there are also a lot of people who have not study in the university but they are very successful in their fields, especially in the area of business. Large amount of founders of different fields companies have not studied in the university. The society experiences help them learn more which is difficult to print on the books. So if one works hard, he can not only study the knowledge by himself but also study the knowledge from the society which the students do not have the opportunity to learn. In some areas the experience is much significant than the knowledge from the books.

However, I do not believe that most people could learn more by studying and reading on their own. In the process of pursuing a university degree, people not just learn the knowledge from the books. In the area of science and technology, the equipments to do the experiments are hard to get for a person who just learns by themselves. Just the knowledge from books is not enough. Study in a university people can learn from each other and learn the way to communicate with each other. If they have any questions they could ask the professors to help them to solve. All of these are a part of knowledge which is significant to the students. Nowadays there are fewer and fewer scientists do not have a university degree. In fact, most of the professors work in the university have a Ph.D degree. In most of the countries people have a university degree earn more than the people just graduate from high school. This would substantiate without a university degree, one is hardly be a researcher in the field of science and technology now.

What is more, the culture of the university is also a part of knowledge which could only learn from the university. Every university has its own university culture. The culture would influence the attitudes of the students towards the world and would influence the students for their whole lives. But the one who study by himself, the only culture he could touch is the culture of the society which has a big difference with the university. The culture of the university reflects more true emotion of the individuals. The true friendship and the emotion in the university will also benefits the individuals in the future. A lot of people will recall the life in the university when they were young, and most of people would say that is a great fortune of their lives.

In sum, although the conclusion the intellectual benefits of attending a university or college are overrated, to most of people, learning in the university could learn more knowledge than they just study by themselves.
