题目:
Many of the world's lesser-known languages are being lost as fewer and fewer people speak them. The governments of countries in which these languages are spoken should act to prevent such languages from becoming extinct.
The speaker asserts that as fewer and fewer people speak the world’s lesser-known languages, they are being lost and the government of countries in which these languages are spoken should take actions to prevent them from being extinct. I agree insofar as a nation’s indigenous languages
should not be forgotten, however, I think that there are many reasons lead the lesser-known languages to extinct situation, besides fewer people use them. And all of the world should take part in the action to protect them.
UNESCO has reported that half of the 6,7000 languages spoken today are in danger of disappearing before the century ends. And in these 6,7000 languages , only four percent of them are spoken by ninety-seven percent people in the world, while the other ninety-six percent languages are used by only three percent population. Thus, protecting the endangered languages is quite a hard work, but is very important.
The reasons that made the lesser-known languages in to dangers are many. Not only the surface as the speaker point out that fewer and fewer use them, but also the depth reasons such as the more and more communications between different groups, the mainstream culture’s forcing, the economic, religious and education under the globalization. An anthropologist said that in the contemporary society, the loss of lesser-known languages is a tendency, which can’t be converted. So should we continue to do our best to prevent the endangered languages from being disappear? The answer is affirmative as the losing of the various languages would bring
amount of bad results, such as the loss of quantities of arts that are expressed through the indigenous language, the loss of unique cultural, historical, and ecological knowledge, the loss of their original ethnic and cultural identify and so on.
For the reasons and consequences above, we should conserve the endangered languages via all of the aspects. First of all, conserving the endangered languages is the duty all of world, not only for the countries in which use these languages .It needs every country pays its attention and participates in. Secondly, government is the leading role in this action. Government could take useful and powerful measures, for instance, giving the financial assistance, carrying out the bilingual teaching and so forth. Thirdly, many cultural organizations should generalize the knowledge about the endangered languages and call on the commonalty to join in action. At last, the group who speak the lesser-known languages should attach importance to their own languages protection.
In the sum, lots of languages are facing the dangers to be extinct and the reason for that is mainly the effect of globalization and it’s so important that all of the world should play a role in the action of preventing them from being extinct. It will be valuable to our human’s various culture, creativities and future progress.
