1. The following appeared in a memorandum written by the vice president of Nature’s Way, a chain of stores selling health food and other health-related products.

“Previous experience has shown that our stores are most profitable in areas where residents are highly concerned with leading healthy lives. We should therefore build our next new store in Plainsville, which has many such residents. Plainsville merchants report that sales of running shoes and exercise clothing are at all-time highs. The local health club, which nearly closed five years ago due to lack of business, has more members than ever, and the weight training and aerobics classes are always full. We can even anticipate a new generation of customers: Plainsville’s schoolchildren are required to participate in a ‘fitness for life’ program, which emphasizes the benefits of regular exercise at an early age.”

ARGUMENT
188A new report suggests that men and women experience pain very differently from one another, and that doctors should consider these differences when prescribing pain medications. When researchers administered the same dosage of kappa opioids—a painkiller—to 28 men and 20 women who were having their wisdom teeth extracted, the women reported feeling much less pain than the men, and the easing of pain lasted considerably longer in women. This research suggests that kappa opioids should be prescribed for women whenever pain medication is required, whereas men should be given other kinds of pain medication. In addition, researchers should reevaluate the effects of all medications on men versus women

The University of Claria is generally considered one of the best universities in the world because of its instructors' reputation, which is based primarily on the extensive research and publishing record of certain faculty members. For example, many of the faculty from the English department are regularly invited to teach at universities in other countries. Furthermore, two recent graduates of the physics department have gone on to become candidates for the Nobel Prize in Physics. And 75 percent of the students are able to find employment after graduating. Therefore, because of the reputation of its faculty, the University of Claria should be the obvious choice for anyone seeking a quality education.

Furthermore, education experts say that long practice sessions for these sports take away time that could be used for academic activities. Since the disadvantages apparently outweigh any advantages, we in Parkville should discontinue organized athletic competition for children under nine."

"Doctors have long suspected that secondary infections may keep some patients from healing quickly after severe muscle strain. This hypothesis has now been proved by preliminary results of a study of two groups of patients. The first group of patients, all being treated for muscle injuries by Dr. Newland, a doctor who specializes in sports medicine, took antibiotics regularly throughout their treatment. Their recuperation time was, on average, 40 percent quicker than typically expected. Patients in the second group, all being treated by Dr. Alton, a general physician, were given sugar pills, although the patients believed they were taking antibiotics. Their average recuperation time was not significantly reduced. Therefore, all patients who are diagnosed with muscle strain would be well advised to take antibiotics as part of their treatment."

看到组长布置的题目，暗自高兴了一下。Sally给了我一个机会给大家一个见面礼,给大家提供一下与Argument51有关的背景知识，希望可以帮助对医学比较晕的朋友。

1、关于抗生素
抗生素(Antibiotics)指由细菌、霉菌或其它微生物在生活过程中所产生的具有抗病原体或其它活性的一类物质。
这个大家不用很清楚，只是知道抗生素是抗感染的就可以了。

2、关于安慰剂
安慰剂（placebo）一般只由本身没有特殊药力活性的中性物质如乳糖、淀粉等制成的外形似药的制剂。但从广义上讲，安慰剂还包括那些本身没有特殊作用的医疗措施如假手术等。安慰剂产生的效应称为安慰剂效应（placebo effect）
药物治疗的效应包括药理学效应和安慰剂效应。
安慰剂效应主要由病人的心理因素引起，它来自病人对药物和医生的信赖，病人在经医生给与药物后，会产生一系列的精神和生理上的变化，这些变化不仅包括病人的主观感觉，而且包括许多客观的指标。
由于安慰剂效应的广泛存在，在评价药物的临床疗效时，应考虑这一因素的影响。实际上在临床有不少药物或其他手段的治疗效果往往不是药物本身的作用，只是安慰剂效应。

arguement51反驳点汇总

1.没有直接证据证明抗生素防止了二次感染
2.作者没有考虑到医生的医术的差别
3.作者没有涉及参加研究的样本数量
4. study的科学性，患者人数，的具体情况，第一组是否采取了其它恢复方式
5. 平均不能代表全体都是如此
6. 未考虑其它因素，抗生素的副作用，价格
7. 肌肉拉伤的患者不一定都会二次感染
8,没有说明两组病人的情况，或许第一组的情况本来就比2组好，恢复自然也快
9 即使第一组的antibiotics 比2组的sugar pillars有效果，也不能说明抗生素比任何药
  都有效
10 Dr.N可能给患者服用了某种其他药物，而Dr.A没有，而这种药物恰恰是治疗严重肌肉扭伤的关键药。
11  Dr.N在运动医学领域可能比Dr.A水平要高。

做了一下汇总．以上为大家这次阿狗的驳斥点了，在一篇文章中一般选择３－４个论点比较合适，多了分析不透彻，少了显得思考不全面，大家一定把握好
