185"Scandals—whether in politics, academia, or other areas—can be useful. They focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could."
Outline
Body
Scandal, by defination of a disgraceful or discredible action, refers to a great many of negative things which brings to people not only objective understanding of circumstances but also passive perspective of human beings’ attitude toward life and future. In terms of this, only through striking a balance between the two aspects of scandals’ infulences can we get the access to knowing the word more rationally and therefore pace forward to a better status with a get-up-and-go heart.
First and foremost, scandals are the penetrating tools to unveil the lowdown of things, whehter ignominious or glorious. They furnish mankind with the horizon to scan the world profoundly, thereby men are equiped with a microscope by with even the most trifling roots and essence of matters will inevitably be found. An illuminating instance involves the Teapot Dome scandal happened during president Warren. G. Harding’s administration, despite the scandalous nature of the affaire per se, it cannot be denied that it’s this scandal that enabled more policians to be exposed to the concomitant prblems and reasons of the scandal, including the nature resourse scarcity and the need to protect for the furture against the depletion of resources in a time of emergency. Having known all the problems and throught analysing the causes of them, the succeeding president after Harding was able to handle the conundrum relatively easily based on all the information he gained from the scandal. In the meanwhhile, scandals not only plays a role as information-provider, but are as well the media from which posterities can draw lessons from. Consider, will latter democratic senators still take the adverture to take bribery having infomed of Forest’s embroilment in the finacial scandal that led to his resignation the next year? Will a scholar neglect the widly spited scandal of one of his colleague’s plagiarizing other’s academic ideas and insiste on reaching the scholarly achieviement in this invalid way? Of course, the answers to these questions are an absolute “no”. in this sense, former scadals seem to be the obstocles which prevent people from getting into the bad affairs again.
Deep down, what interesting is that most scadals implicate some big pots in history, through president Thomas Jefferson in the sex scandal with Sally Hemings to Former National Security Adviser Rear Admiral John M’s involvement in 1986’s military Iran-Contra affair, to the indictment of 86 governmental officials in the Whiskey Ring scandal which was made public in 1875. all these examples can be cited as the demonstrations of the relationship between famous people and scandals. Consequently, scandals provide ordinary people with a good opportunity to inspect famous people’s life more deeply and thus the mass can resort to legislation to supervise the power of these people by which legislature can curb leaders’ authority appropriately so that they cannnot abuse their power. In this case, the condition of administration in our society has tranformed from unilateral pattern to bilateral pattern by with both the famous people of authority and ordinary people are conditiioned by each other. Under such circumstance, autarchy is effectively gotten rid of and as a result makeing our society more democratic.
However, there lies a high likelihood that scandals would beget negative effects in that men’s perspective more often than not is subject to outer comments, that is to say, they are more likely to consider the world a disordered, putrefactive one if they are bogged down in a Sargasso sea of scandalous informtion. An example in point is the scandal meant to attack the former president of the US,Bill Clinton, when his sex scandal with Lewinsky was exposed to mass, all the achievements during his administrations, including the lowest unemployment in all 20 year, fastest economic growth in the whold American history and so forth, seem to be overshadowed by the single scandale. In this sense,it’s undeniable that scandals make people more exacting about others which does no much good to our overall development.
In the final analysis, there is no hardness to draw the conclusion tha only throught straking a ballence between positive and negative aspects of scandals can we make full use of them and therefore realize the continuous progress.
感觉尾段写得很不好,再想想怎么修改下
