How to be an effective leader? As far as I am concerned, it needs two things. The one is to establish effective laws and principles to manage the society, and the other is apealing others to follow the laws. However, it seems not easy to acomplish the two rules, after all, everyone is an individual and they all have their own thoughts, the only way to make your leadership function is to make yourself accepted, as well as respected by the citizens. As a result, a leader, especially public official must remain high ethical and moral standars.
It is nowhere more ture than on the problem of mending some priciples that ethical and moral standars matter. In the first place, if a person is not kind, who do not love the others, who never think of creating welfare to the public, it will not be a wonder that, in other words, the person is only careing of himself and his advantage, obviously, the principles make by him will only serve for him instead of the public. What is more, if some principles are not able to reveal fairness, freedom, and the rights ror the citizens, no one would addmit
it, let along obeying. As a result, if the leader is lake of high quality, any rules made by him will just be invadit, even hurt the public as well. If it is the case, how can his leadership be effective.
Supremely, granted the leader has made some principles really for the general goodness, if he is a man of low moral standars, it will be very hard for citizens to believe him. President Nixson had really made some great contributions to the Unitated States, especially he impeled the reestablishment of friendship between China and America, both the nations benefit from it. However, after the Watergate, he had no choice but give up his career, for it was clare almost no Americans would believe him anymore at that time. It is general rule if a president is not concentriting on how to make the public enjoy a better, but use illegetic measures to defame his political enemy so that he can maintain his president, will not do much good to the citizens. There is an Chinese old saying goes: " people who is believed by the public will rule the country." It is used to tell us that the most important thing for a leader is the belief for the citizens, and the belief is based on his high ethical and moral standars.
However, public offcials is also humanbeings, it is common for them to make some mistakes. So I personally think requiring them to maintain the highest moral and ethical standars is too hard and utopian to be the reality. If the laeder is right, honest, brave, and aboveboard, at least he is trying his best to creat benefits to the public, why can not we forgive some of his slight mistakess?
Again, a man is only of high moral is not enough to be an effective leader. A Public officials sometimes need to make certain schimes, they even need to tell lies if necessary, especially referring to some secrets on weapons and the like. In a word, an public official should have a quality called strategy as well.
To some up, I hold the view that an public offcial need to have high ethical and moral quality to make effective laws acceptable, but be to be humane, not the highest. At the same time, they also should be strategic and of high quality. Only in this way, the leadership can be effective, and also they can lead the public to a better life. |
