International Doctoral Program in Economics (IDPE)
Jointly offered by Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, Italy and by University of Strasbourg, France
Call for applications, A.Y. 2012-2013 (4 scholarships available)
The International Doctoral Program in Economics is a three-year program designed for highly qualified and motivated students who wish to acquire the research and analytical skills of the international scientific community in economics. It is designed for students pursuing jobs in academia as well as those who wish to acquire the skills of professional academic research to work in government agencies, financial institutions, international agencies, private companies.
Students will be offered one year and a half of intensive course work by an international Faculty composed of both permanent staff of the School and a large group of Visiting Scholars. All teaching is in English. Courses will focus on both standard mainstream economics, as well as more “heterodox” approaches, such as evolutionary economics and agent-based computational economics. Upon successful completion of their coursework, Ph.D. students will proceed to supervised research work, eventually yielding an original dissertation to be discussed in a final, public examination. It is expected that students will produce articles publishable in peer-reviewed international journals.
The Program is jointly offered by Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna and by University of Strasbourg. Courses are mostly held in Pisa while some second-year courses may be held in Strasbourg. Moreover, the Program is part of a European network - involving the University of Sussex, Aalborg, Manchester, Paris XIII, Oslo and several others, supporting inter-European exchanges of research students and faculty, within the European Network of Excellence DIME. A research period abroad is encouraged.
In addition to the teaching activities, Ph.D. students are nested in a rich research environment within the Institute of Economics and the Laboratory of Economics and Management (LEM) at the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna , and the Bureau d'Economie Théorique et Appliquée (BETA) at the University of Strasbourg, where they are encouraged to take part in the ongoing research projects.
Four positions with fellowship (amounting to 12.500 euro per year + free meals at the School’s canteen + Campus facilities) are available. The Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna reserves the possibility of accepting up to a maximum of two further students without grant or with other forms of financial support.
As to you question, you're right. Take into account however that we are very small and most of these ranks just sum up all publications or impact factors. If you renormalize by the number of people affiliated in the department, probably ranks change a lot. There's one in Italy that lists us as the second one.
