  The contemporary era is marked by the development of technology, since it can give us more convenience and help us probe the world. For our ordinary people, we can make use of several kinds of vehicles to reduce the time that we spend on journey. In addition, our human beings can not only reach the floor of the ocean, but also step on the surface of the moon with the help of the newly technology.
  As a matter of fact, there is no doubt that technology could have a negative impact on our ability of thinking for ourselves if we utilize technology and depend on it unscrupulously, especially when it could assist us doing some basic thinking activities, such as arithmetic. For example, nowadays, a growing number of people will use calculator or computer to do some basic calculations, no matter how easy they are. With the appearance of mathematical software, people are also aware of the fact that they could accomplish all kind of through these software so that what they have to do are just inputting the numbers as well as waiting for the answers. As students come to follow this trend, there is no doubt that their ability of thinking will be weakened due to their inured sloth and a lack of thinking activity.
  However, we cannot deny the fact that with the development of technology, people’s ability of thinking is enhancing. We can take the speed of light as an example to justify this assertion. Last year, scientists start to cast doubt of what Einstein had said about the speed of light with the help of LHC, a sophisticated apparatus which can simulate mysterious natural phenomena. During a long period, people can do nothing but admit Einstein’s words. But now people can further deduce the truth, which may overturn predecessors’ theories, just like Copernicus and Galileo challenging geocentric theory with heliocentric theory with the help of telescope, prove them, or even have further discovery. Any activity like this will lead to the growth of people’s ability of thinking.
  Besides, as people are never satisfied with the current technologies, they will look for any opportunity to improve them, just like the pursuit of speed facilitating the engine’s progress, from steam, to petroleum, and to electricity eventually. Meanwhile, people’s pursuit of better living quality will also encourage the development of technology. For instance, as Smartphone, which leads to a revolutionary change in our daily life, comes in to being, Nokia’s failure of keeping up with the trend of it has made its industry shrinking. On the contrary, Apple’s keeping up with the trend has made its industry expanding. Only a slight abeyance will lead to people’s worry about its technological stagnancy, which can be reflected by the drop of its share. Therefore, we can see how people’s desire for better life can drive the improvement of technology. As this kind of improvement depends on people’s ability of thinking, we can make a conclusion that both of human desire for better life and our longing for advancement drive the progress of people’s ability of thinking.
  Everything, including technology, possesses both advantage as well as disadvantage, and its effect on us relies on how we make use of it. Thus, if we excessively rely on technology, we may turn into simpletons; we will be smarter than our predecessor, if we harness it correctly.
