People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books (这句话是怎么回事？）

Reading books is a long-term activity, which companies humans for a long time. Even in the days when there were no radios no televisions and no computers, people learned a lot through reading books written by the comtemporarneity and by the precedence. As the period of television image comes(With the advent of the new phase of television), people attract by this new technology and pay much attention to this new way of expressing. Though people can really gain something through the way of watching television, the personal experience and appreciations given by reading of books cannot be replaced through watching television.

To begin with, reading books can give people more room for their imaginative work and critical thinking. Most people enjoy choosing a quiet place to read. Why? They do this because they need to think when reading books. Even when they read a fiction, they may choose to view the certain conditions and the image of the characters in their mind. Just as one hundred people have one hundred Hamlets in their eyes, different people may have diversity image in their heart even for the same character. Through the words of the book, one creates the new image according to his or her own point of view or one's personal experience, and this new image may have a distinct distance with that of the original one in the author’s mind. Furthermore, most authors have sharp eyes and are sensitive to the social problems, they may realize the problems and express their concern in their books. So through the way of reading a book quietly, one may perceive the deep thesis or signification that the author put in his or her book. But when we watch a film or teleplay in television, the image of the character is being put into fixation, we accept it through the performance of the actor, and our attentions detract to some visible things and leave less room for recreational works with sharp thinking.

In addition, through the way of reading books, we can communicate with people even in the past days. Even the ancient people had their own emotions in watching the sun arising or flower blossoming. And most of them left numerous books to illustrate their ideals or values or simply life experience. Besides the great moral power we can learn from these books, even reading some poems or biographies, we can feel their happiness or sorrow, griefness or miser. We share their life experience through the historic distance and reach the deep heart of their life. To this point, reading a book is a high spiritual enjoyment. In this sense, this human experience cannot be acquired by watching television.

Admittedly, television has the advantages in which book cannot bring to us. Television can widen our horizon and enlarge our knowledge background. It can directly distribute the mass information to us in a short time, and make us know what had happened in another part of the world immediately. Within the help of television, we are ensured us being equipped with the most up-to-date information and enjoy the convenience it takes to us. Moreover, television also plays important role in entertaining people through the program and teleplays it takes. It enriches our lives and makes our lives colorful.

In summary, though both ways play roles in teaching us, television provides us more superficial and factual material instead of high standard of human emotion or valuable thoughts. To this point, reading of books has more value in educating people and sharing the human experience.
