History teaches us only one thing: knowing about the past cannot help people to make important decisions today.

History has great function and influence on today's people. It not only provides suggestion and experience for contemporary people to meditate and imitate, but also it can prevent people make the same kinds of mistakes. So I do not agree the author's idea. To the contrary, past events can tell people much in making decisions today.

History can encourage people to finish some great enterprises that have been left before. For example, Alberham Loncoln has struggled for the emancipation of black people for several years which has brought a primary triumph. Following his footprints, Martin Luther King has further strived for the equal rights for black people and improved greatly the situation of black people. Therefore, history has let most people follow something right and inherit something unfinished. People's decisions are influenced more or less by some successful ideas in history.

The history has provided a good foundation to further explore the unknown world. Galieo's tele-scope has broaden our optical scope to the more distant cosmic, the literature renaissance has brought a new epoch for the composition of arts, moreover, the Olympics have produced more, wider hobbies for people's leisure time. Therefore, just history has brought us a better developed society which we may share more advanced science and technology and more comfortable facilities and more abundant activities. All those convenience will promote the decisions-making for the contemporary people.

The history has awared people nowadays not to make the same mistakes as before. For instance, the Second World War has brought a huge loss including millions people sacrifice and millions of countries suffering from stagnancy in development. Therefore, the contemporary people has realised the calamity war has brought and after that war, there is no wars with such dimensions and so high casualty. As we can see that history is a mirror to today's behavior. It can reflect you what is right and what is wrong. In another word, history can remind people to make wise decisions.

History has a special function to incite people pursuing their dreams and purpose. In the beginning of the independence of the United States, there is a mystic spirit called "American Dreams " which has encouraged and excited people from generation to generation. “People are all created equal. How you behave and what you have done can decide your life value but not the status and backgrounds.” This ideology has affected people in the relatively weak group to struggle for their beautiful wills. And these people are always making decisions by virtue of this principle.

History has continued our culture and custom both of which are important factors of decision making for people, consciously or unconsciously. Because our thought has been greatly confined within our culture ideology and common habits which we can hardly get rid of. For example, an American girl regards nude as sexy and lusty while a girl from Arabia may be shocked greatly because she considers this behavior is a kind of betray to their idols and religion. Therefore, the culture and custom which has been formed in the long history has molded relatively steadfast  manners of thought which greatly influences people's decisions.

In sum, history has helped a lot in decision-making in the contemporary. Only if we realize the function of history, can we better make use of it to help us make out wiser and smarter decisions.
