The speaker asserts that it is the artist who provides something of lasting value to society instead of the critic. I agree insofar as without artists there would be no works of art, such as novels, films, music, paintings, etc. At the same time, however, the criticism from the critic helps us understand and appreciate works of art of any sort. First of all, generally speaking, the critic has the special knowledge to appreciate the artists’ works. Common persons only enjoy works of art and seldom estimate them, because they lacks of expertise. Any work of art, if it wants to be something of lasting value in the society, should accept a variety of comments whether they are good or not.（为什么艺术作品拥有长久价值必须经过许多评论呢？这里好像没有论证就直接说了结论，不是很具说服力~~） In addition, the critic’s criticism helps us understand and appreciate works of art of any sort. It is possible that some works of art are so obscure and indigestible that they are hard to understand for the common people. In this circumstance, the critic will reinterpret them to make them easy to understand. Finally, the criticism helps the artist to improve his or her writing. The critic can provide many good ideas which are helpful to the artists’ modification. For example, every novel which is perfect ultimately needs lots of amending. It is the critic who discovers the problems and faults existed in the manuscript.（强调句式，精彩~~） Without the hard working of the critic, it is impossible for the artist to provide something of lasting value in our society.
