When it comes to the question what is the responsibility of a teacher, people always have the concept that a teacher should do well on education. As we’ve entered the 21st century, an increasing number of people recognize that teachers should do more than teaching. It is said that teachers should spare some time to take care of students such as those who are living in the single parent families. Recently, some people point out that teachers should spend more time on helping students to build their confidence than teaching. Based ion my abundant experience, this viewpoint is impracticable, because after all teachers’ main responsibility is teaching and it can not be replaced by someone else. In addition, to help children build confidence may be an over claim to teachers as it is not critically required on them.

To begin with, parents bring their children to school are actually willing that teachers can make their sons and daughters to be polite and knowledgeable. Most of the parents do not have the idea to ask teachers to help their children on the psychological facts. On the other hand, training schools also do not include many courses to train those future teachers how to deal with students’ mental problems. In a word, teachers do not completely have the ability to help students on certain parts such as to help them build confidence. For instance, many teachers think to build students’ confidence can be simply solved by continuous praise and encouragement, but students have various personalities and backgrounds would react quite differently towards those positive sayings. Some students may build confidence and work harder to gain more praises, but for those who are born in single families, they may still be shy and even misunderstand those praises.

On the contrary, if teachers do spend more time on helping students build confidence, it would undoubtedly have a negative effect on teaching. As we all know that time is limited, teachers would certainly reduce the time on preparing for class in order to care more about students’ psychological problems. As I have mentioned above, parents mainly want their children to gain knowledge in school, the change on teachers’ time schedule is unacceptable to those parents. What’s more, as the old saying goes, “everyone might be the master on his own special field”, there are certain people who are specialized at children’s mental problems, for example, child psychologist.Thus, schools only need to hire a psychologist to help children who have difficulties on the mental part. At the same time, it also ensures teachers to educate better.


To sum up, teachers should first work hard to improve the education quality. Also, as teachers are respected by students, they should assist psychologist’s work to help students on mental facts such as to build students’ confidence.
