Is it reasonable for political leaders to withhold information from the public when it is necessary as the speaker asserts? On this point of view, I agree with the speaker. Although it is the time that all the people, no matter what race they belong to, claim to enjoy their rights of publicized information, the political leaders still need to withhold some crucial information from the public.

In the first place, besides their explorations to their countries, the most important thing that political leaders care about is their own reputation and fame. In order to protect their reputation as qualified political leaders in front of the public, sometimes they have to declaim something which they actually did. Politics is originally and essentially a complex game. During two rivals in the competition, both of them need to preserve their merits and circumvent their shortness because once their shortness is composure to their opponents, they would lost everything. Consider Bill Clinton's sexual scandal which brought him endless regrets and pains, let alone the large amount of money that paid by tax payers to cover his scandal.

In the second place, as a political leader, national security and social stability must be taken into consideration. Every country has her own highly confidential files that cannot be publicized to people. If political leaders announce these files to the public, then it would be the convenience for those terriorists who would conspire to damage the country. As a result, the security of the nation would be destroyed. So in order to maintain the safety of the nation, sometimes political leaders should withhold confidential information from the public. On the other hand, the preservation of some information also serves to stabilize people and prevent unnecessary panic among civilians. For example, during the epidemic of SARS in the whole China, to encourage people to overcome the difficulty, the government blockades some unpleasant information.

While I concede that political leaders could withhold some information from people when necessary, however, it is not wise for them to do so all the time. In other words, most of time, the priority of political leaders is to communicate with people and listen to their voices. If a political leader is always withholding information from people, then he might be dictated eventually and overturned by the people. For instance, Qin Shihang, an autocratic in the Qin dynasty, so dictated and refusing to accord with anyone else, finally was overturned by the people around the nation.

In sum, political leaders can withhold some crucial or confidential information from the public when necessary, after all, they have to consider far more than that ordinary people think. However, this does not mean that they can preserve everything. Communicating with people and satisfying the most people's interests is the essential job of political leaders.

The speaker asserts that in retrospect of the past provides little guidance for living today as the society is becoming more complex. Although I agree that the increasingly new technology leads to the complexity of the whole society, learning from the history of human being is still vital to the whole society and people, from which people not only can be inspired to generate new ideas but have crucial lesson so that people can avoid to be trapped as precedents were.

Admittedly, as the rapid development of the technology, the living pace of people is also getting speeded up. Nearly everyday, a new type of patent is introduced and launched onto the market, which brings benefits to the global economy as well as people' life. For example, computer not only improves the productivity of companies but also spares people's time so that they can save more time to spend with their family. And Internet also shorten the distance between people while at the same time, offer people a way to communicate with strangers or play games so as to release stress imposed on their shoulders. Although technology brings people variety of convenience but as a return, people have to recharge themselves all the time so that they will not abandoned by this society. So researching and leaning new technology is one of priorities of people and the whole society.

While to enhance the development of the whole society is important to people nowadays, people still cannot discard the history of the past for two reasons. On the one hand, although history has been passed away and to some extent far away from people's modernized life, learning history still cannot be regarded as worthiness for the reason that people in the current society can gain a lot from the brightness of precedents. There in no doubt that the current technology is far more advanced than that of the ancient, yet, the wisdom of our ancestors is as gorgeous as ours or even superior to ours. For instance, the art of the war, which was written by a super militarist in the ancient China, is now reputed as an unprecedented book for businessmen surviving in the business circles.

On the other hand, in retrospect to the history also can teach a great lesson to the current people so that they will not make the same mistakes. There is an old saying from Francois Bacon that history makes people wise. It really does. The development of the human being is endless and decedents will inevitably encounter the same problem which harassed the precedents. So researching the history people can prevent from making the same blunders. Consider the world war one and world war two which imposed tremendous pains on people around the whole world. No one can deny that none of people would refuse global peace after experiencing such kind of hardship.

In sum, while people are keen on the research and development of more and more new technology, they also cannot ignore that there are a large amount of treasures in the history waiting their exploration. After all, history is not only the document of the past of the human being but also affect people's life contemporary.
