Issue 49"Imaginative works such as novels, plays, films, fairy tales, and legends present a more accurate and meaningful pictureof human experience than do factual accounts. Because the creators of fictionshape and focus reality rather than report on it literally, their creationshave a more lasting significance."
According to the statement, the speaker claims that imaginative works are more accurate and meaningful than factual accounts in depicting human experience, that creations by shaping reality instead of reporting on it have a more lasting significance. I agree with claim that imaginative works are more meaningful, yet I disagree with that they are more accurate and significant definitely.
Imaginative works inherently hold advantages in contents, which may be facts or any imaginative thing that can help present thoughts and emotions, over historical works, as a representative of factual accounts. On the contrary the most vital characteristic of historical works is adherent to facts and any imaginative event involved is a defect, even no individual emotion and thoughts which is one ofare the most significant elements for imaginative works and makes them more meaningful. Greek fairy tales are completely imaginative stories which, however, profoundly present characterize human emotions, life and destiny. Homer’s two works, Iliad and Odyssey, describe famous wars of ancient Greek in the form of tales and imaginations delivering thoughts of humanity and mentality of human destiny which bring them more meaning than pure historical works. In human history, it engendered a great deal of meaningful and attractive literal worksliteratures, films, operas and so forth which greatly enrich the world of human emotion and mentality.
However, it is no doubt that news or other reports are more accurate and creditable than a fiction or any other imaginative work. Films never could be evidences instead of videos recording facts or any other factual proofs. Similarly, documents and history which record events in a particular and exact way help historians and researchers make more sure and accurate conclusion about human experience. Contrarily, it is difficult to gain useful and credible information from resources which mixes with imaginations, fictions, tales and emotions among imaginative works. The factual accounts are like an older who narrates stories about human history from ancient times.
Although, good imaginative works meaningfully and profoundly describe human experience, there would be no credible conclusions without accurate and exact human historical recordings as fundaments or a premise of conclusion. It is improper to assert that the creations of imaginative works are more lasting significance since human experience which creations derive from depends on historical recordings to descend exactly. Therefore, both are significant for human history.
To sum up, for including more abundant and profound thoughts and mentalities, imaginative works are more meaningful than factual accounts which lack ample human emotions and care for human destiny. Due to respective nature, factual accounts inherently record more accurate and credible. When it comes to reflect human experience, both of them are important ways. |
