这是9月9号写的,之前有事情,一直没自己改改放上来,今天放上来,望各位大侠使劲拍砖!
TOPIC: ISSUE201 - "The purpose of education should be to provide students with a value system, a standard, a set of ideas-not to prepare them for a specific job."

With the great development of technology and industry, more and more specialists are demanded. Therefore, there is a fierce discussion about whether the specialists are the most important role in our society. Now a further discussion about purpose of education comes to our mind. In my opinion, no matter how badly the specialists are needed, a value system, a stander education is still standing an irreplaceable place.
Above all, a student who is educated with value, system and generalized will be more competitive and adaptive. As a matter of fact, there is a trend that the society demands the students who just graduate from schools to react and adapt quickly to the fierce competition. Lots of companies require the students to equip abilities such as leadership, communication ability, presentation ability and study fast. However, seldom they want a student to be great professional to a field. Because, it is easy to see, as a student who only has spent several years in the campus, how could he/she be very professional to his/her field. Even a student equips great professional knowledge, which company is willing to hire a Green thumb instead of inviting some experts? Therefore, considering the trend of the society, a student who is easier to adapt to the work will be easier to find a decent job. Moreover, as many people agree that what will not change is the CHANGE. Our society is changing fast, our technology is developing quickly. While we are cultivating the students in the campus, the world is keeping moving in a dramatically speed. Finally, perhaps, when the students graduate from schools, they pathetically find that what they learned can do little help to them, because the knowledge they learned has been given up by the society. On the other hand, the abilities and values are something relatively hard to change. No matter what you learned in the school, if you are equipped with leadership, communication skills and so on, you may have fewer troubles and obstacles. Shortly, if we pay more attention to value, idea and ability education, the students may have a smoother path to achievement no matter how fast the world is changing.
On the other side, if we educate the students in order to make them as experts, this may bring us some significant problems. First, as I said before, because the world is changing fast and companies are willing students with other abilities, our society may face the low employment rate problems. Further, the low employment rate may give birth to more fatal social problems. Second, if we overlook the generalized and value education, this could result the students hardly adapting to the Strange Outside World; on the contrary, they are hardly accept by our society unfortunately. Similarly, this situation may also brings lots of troubles to us. Finally, without the emphasizing of the ability-toward education, no matter how perfect the professional knowledge the students acquired, they can hardly make progress in the future. Learning is a long time and whole-life travel. Only spending several years studying in the campus is far from enough. Therefore, a student had better learn how to learn and study; this is the key element to help them proceed in the future. Thus, if we give too much attention to special-toward education, not only the students but the society possibly face great challenge in the future.
There is no doubt that if we give too much attention to generalized-toward education may also bring troubles. Admittedly, the specialists and professional education is pretty important and also irreplaceable. Thus, we should not ignore the specific jobs' demand for education; meanwhile we can slightly emphasize a generalized education system a little more.
On the whole, in recent society, a person with all-rounded abilities and knowledge is more welcomed. Hence, we should find a balance between the generalized and specialist education, therefore we may promise the students a bright future, at the same time send useful human resources to the society.
感觉这篇教育类的相对来说比较好写。不过我感觉我有点点扯到specialist和generalist上面去了,这样危不危险?
TOPIC: ARGUMENT240 - The following appeared in a memo written by a dean at Buckingham College.
"To serve the housing needs of our students, Buckingham College should build a new dormitory. Buckingham's enrollment is growing and, based on current trends, should double over the next fifty years, thus making existing dormitories inadequate. Moreover, the average rent for an apartment in our town has increased in recent years. Consequently, students will find it increasingly difficult to afford off-campus housing. Finally, an attractive new dormitory would make prospective students more likely to enroll at Buckingham."

The author suggests that Buckingham College should build a new dormitory with several proof supported. All the evidence seems logical and supportive, however, after more consideration; I find several defects of the author's claim.
First of all, the author says that the Buckingham's enrollment is growing and may double over the next 50 years, but the author doesn't provide whether the growing trend can last for 50 years. As we all know that the factors that affect the enrollment rate are many kinds. And it is hard to promise a college can hold a nice enrollment rate for a long time unless the college is significant famous and qualified. However, the author fails to provide us more information about Buckingham College, therefore I can hardly accept that the possibility that the enrollment rate of Buckingham will keep growing in 50 years. Moreover, while there are lots of freshmen come into the campus, there are lots of people may leave this campus, such as who graduate, who fail, who find new opportunity outside the campus and so on. Thus, it has possibility that the total number of the people of the Buckingham College is not growing greatly. That makes new dormitories meaningless. Shortly, without more information, I cannot easily agree with the author's first imply.
Second, the author says that the rent in the town has increased in recent years, in order to help the students get rid of rent problems, a dormitory is necessary. But, will a new construction of a dormitory brings more cost to the college, further increase the rent of the dormitory itself. Moreover, as living outside the campus bring more free choice and convenient, it has possibility that students are willing to rent apartment in the town, even with the increase of the rent. As well, maybe there are many other apartments which outside the town with low price are attractive to students. In sum, author solely use the increase of the rent in the town as a reason that students are becoming willing to live in dormitory; this is a little subjective without more other evidence.
Finally, the author says a new dormitory would attract more prospective students. Granted that nice dormitory may be a factor that attracts students, however, as a student, I pretty sure this factor is not the most important one. If I am going to pick a university, such as the reputation, the lab situation, the famous professor and a good environment and phenomena should concern more than other factors. And I believe many students may share with my opinion as this is commonly accepted. Thus, the author says that a new dormitory may attract more students seems less convincible.
On the whole, if the author provides us more information about the Buckingham College and conduct some survey on the students, perhaps I can share the same conclusion.
相对来说argue最近随机到得题目还算好写,不过总感觉开头结尾不够好,不知哪位能给点意见?!不胜感激!! |
