9.26Topic:
It is better to broad knowledge of many academic subjects than specialize on one specific subject.

As the society has been longing for both generalists and specialists in almost every aspect of social life, either the suggestion of taking various of classes in different subjects or the one of just focusing on only one in university seems to make some sense. As far as I am concerned, I am on the side of the former. Getting involved in a variety of subjects not only benefit students in the university but also will pay them off in the long run.

First of all, taking different courses helps undergraduates to efficiently choose their majors as well as have a deep consideration of their choices. By learning a wide range of courses, students can broaden their horizons and get to know concretely any subjects they
might be actually interested in. Some students will never get access to what they really like if they had been asked to take only one subject after entering university. Lucky as my friend Lyn Chen, who was originally sent to study medical science by her doctor parents, finally found out that she has a special taste on architecture design. On the contrary, there are numerous unlucky ones who finished four years study and eventually turn out to dislike doing anything related to their majors. If all undergraduates are given the chance to indulge in various courses rather than the only one, they surly will make their campus life much worthier.

Taking classes in many subjects rather than one also provides students- let it be undergraduates or postgraduates- a platform to know more people and subsequently develop their abilities to get along with different types of acquaintances. Generally, science students are believed to be more rational, while liberal arts students sentimental. It's much more beneficial to share their opinions and methods of doing things, for the world needs not only practical values but also aesthetic ones. This kind of communication will also work well in their future work as they unavoidably will deal with, sometimes even work with other types of people. Another merit of this communication is that students will get to know there's still other precious things to care rather than one's own field of work.

Above all the benefits for individuals which get from taking various classes, it is meeting the demands of the society, which values interdiscipline talents more than ever, that counts most. Subjects are always connected to each other, especially in practical use. Economy experts could work more effectively if they well command mathemetical rules; architects will be more popular if they have a great sense of aesthetics; biologists do more excellent job if they acquires a chemical degree, and so on. The list could be endless.

The present world asks for competent people who have knowledge about different subjects. If through require students to take classes in many subjects we have a great chance to hit the spot, why not just do it?

Topic 27

Topic27 Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? People should sometimes do things that they do not enjoy doing. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Dad used to tell me, "Sometimes you must do things that you do not enjoy doing before you can do things you want to. That's what the life is like, and that's what we pay to grow up." Through all these years with my study, profession and daily life, I definitely get to understand the meaning in between these words more thoroughly and stick to it paying to enjoy my life.

During school years, teenagers have to study, no matter whether they like it or not. It seems that few teenagers like studying but they've all been forced to do it. Ironically, I found that most of my schoolmates who were constantly complaining about study eventually had to spend more time on it, in most case unwillingly of course, because of the press came from both their parents and teachers. On the other hand, I am lucky to be among the other students who understand the statement giving above at the first stage of lives. We got to know we should do well on our study first even if we didn't sincerely enjoy studying, and only then we could be offered more free time to do things we really enjoy doing.

And further, just take a look at our professional tasks. No one likes to be stuck with dull, repetitive work, but the truth is that nearly every type of work have more or less some boring assignments. Given that I enjoy my teaching job, I still have to put up with the routine things, such as taking part in the somewhat tiring school meetings, contacting with some annoying parents, in the first place. It's our responsibility not only doing things that we are fond of, but also complete all we should do as in our positions.

It is also true when applied to personal daily life. No one likes to take medicines or go to see the doctor, but if we were ill, we had no other choices but to either take pills or go to the doctor. Also, some people hate cooking; some don't like washing; others disgust cleaning stuffs. Yet we all have to do those things daily because if we don't do, we can't enjoy our favorite meals; or we don't have clean clothes to wear to our fantastic parties; or just simply lack of a tidy environment to live.

Life is just like this. I do things I should do, then in return I get chances to do things I like to. Sometimes, if I turn it over, there are usually some things that I originally thought I wouldn't like, actually lead to enjoyment.

A humorous friend is a better companion.
1. A humorous friend can bring us happiness.
2. A humorous friend can prevent us from getting lop-sided.

Friends always play an essential part in people's lives. It's human nature for anyone to search for company in order to counteract loneliness. Put in other words, we need friends for most of the time not because we want guidance or help. Life is not all about progress and push on, but also about enjoyment. We need friends most when we need company and want to pursue happiness side by side. In this case, especially for me, a friend who has got a sense of humor rather than intelligence could be a better companion and of more importance.

First of all, It's much more enjoyable and cheerful to be with a humorous friend. A humorous friend always tells you funny jokes that make you laugh even if you are in a low mood. I once got very frustrated because among several friends being invited to my party only two of them showed up as others were engaged in work. I nearly got mad at that embarrassing moment. Fortunately, I still got Vikki there, who has a really good sense of humor. She used a satire style to make fun of our situation and offered briliant ideas to have fun. That night we had a most fantastic time ever, though there were only three of us. If without her or her humor, it might have been a difficulty for me to get over the dejected feeling of being abondoned by my friends.

Another reason why a friend just like Vikki is vital to me is that she can prevent me from getting lop-sided. At that same joyful night, Vikki didn't only cheer me up but more important she unintentionally taught me to observe life in an entirely new way. That's a thing cannot be so easily done by a clever lesson full of general principles taught by a wise friend. Actually, humor is also a kind of wisdom. It helps us to maintain a correct sense of values. If we can manage to see the funny side of anything, we will never make mistakes of taking ourselves too seriously. And having a friend with a sense of humor around, we seem to always be reminded that, as the old saying goes, "When God shuts a door, he opens another."

If happiness is one of the great goals in life, if we want always to go the right way, then it is friends with a sense of humor that hold the key.

Friends always play an essential part in people's lives. It's human nature for anyone(everyone) to search for company in order to counteract loneliness. Put in other words, we need friends for most of the time not because(为什么这里有个not because? 。。) we want guidance or help. Life is not all about progress and push on, but also about enjoyment. We need friends most when we need company and want to pursue happiness side by side. In this case, especially for me, a friend who has got(不用got) a sense of humor rather than intelligence could be a better companion and of more importance(这一句不错).

I once got very frustrated because among several friends being invited to my party only two of them showed up as others were engaged in work(这一句好绕啊,不过看起来还很对,语法功力不浅:D). I nearly got mad at that embarrassing moment. Fortunately, I still got Vikki there, who has a really good sense of humor. She used a satire style to make fun of our situation and offered briliant ideas to have fun. That night we had a most fantastic time ever, though there were only three of us. If(不需要if,直接without就行) without her or her humor, it might have been a difficulty for me to get over the dejected feeling of being abondoned by my friends(我觉得吧,这么说不太好吧,毕竟其他人是因为工作这种无法推脱的理由).

Another reason why a friend just like Vikki is vital to me is that she can prevent me from getting lop-sided. At that same(不要same) joyful night, Vikki didn't only cheer me up but more important(ly) she unintentionally taught me to observe life in an entirely new way. That's a thing cannot be so easily done by a clever lesson full of general principles taught by a wise friend(没看懂). Actually, humor is also a kind of wisdom(这句话很赞! It helps us to maintain a correct sense of values. If we can manage to see the funny(用positive更好吧?) side of anything, we will never make mistakes of taking ourselves too seriously. And having a friend with a sense of humor around, we seem to always be reminded that, as the old saying goes, "When God shuts a door, he opens another."(这最后一部分真好!)

Topic57 Some movies are serious, designed to make the audience think. Other movies are designed primarily to amuse and entertain. Which type of movie do you prefer? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

TS: I prefer entertain movies.
1. Entertain movies makes me laugh and relax.
2. Entertain movies can improve relationships among family members and friends.
3. Good entertain movies can also make us think.

Movies have such strong powers that they could make you either happy or sad, laugh or cry. In my opinion, the most important function of movies is to entertain people. That is, to make people relax and have fun, to offer an opportunity for friends-gathering, or even better, to unintentionally encounter you a spirit tour. Therefore, though I like all types of movies, I may prefer amusing and entertaining movies rather than serious ones for most of the time.

For one thing, entertaining movies give me the best chance to relax. They make me laugh and leave behind all stress, unhappiness, frustrated feelings in life. After a long day's tiring work or study, I just don't have any spirit to think about any serious things. What I am longing for is a break to drag my mind off all troubles of the day. A movie full of amusing and entertaining characters and plots, just like Shrek, American Beauty, Harry Potter, or anything like that, would be the most appreciated recreation. This kind of movies make me laugh which helps me to shrugg the pressure on my shoulder, get me into a good mood and even better, provide me a positive attitute towards life.

Furthermore, amusing movies are the perfect thing to sharing with my family as well as my friends. The stressfully tight life pace push people so hard that we don't have much time or are not in the right mood to sit down to talk. And amusing movies-rather than serious movies which would be better to be tasted and imbibed by oneself alone-another time again, to make us a chance to do so. My acquaintances and I, once in a while, fix a time to go together to a amusing movie such as Transformers or Finding Nemo. We talked merrily about the movies and  have great fun side by side. Our relationships have been gradually improved without being noticed.

And last but not least, high quality entertain movies can make us take a deep thought as well. "My mama always said: life is like a box of chocolate, you never know what you are going to get." When Forrest Gump's voice saying this, doesn't it mean anything to you? When The Sound of music flowing in your ears, doesn't it ring some bell to you? When the Big Fish shows you the wonderful fairy tale, doesn't it remind you of your beloved father? All those gorgeous movies, they inspire your imaginations; they refresh your long-forgotten memories; they also impel you to think about life, love, happiness or almost everything that humans care about.

There are all those you want, where else need you search?

All those gorgeous movies, they inspire your imaginations; they refresh your long-forgotten memories; they also impel you to think about life, love, happiness or almost everything that humans care about.

There are all those you want, where else need you search?

Topic38 Learning about the past has no value for those of us living in the present. Do you agree or disagree? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Take a look at our newspapers, books, TVs and Internet, the main sources we get useful information from, nearly every one of them are talking about past events as well as knowledges. We live in this minute, but every minute on, now is becoming past. It's really ridiculous to say that learning about the past has no value for present living. As long as we eager to understand ourselves and also the societies well, we should learn from the past. Because that's where we humans and the societies came from.

Through learning about the past, we come to be what we are at present. All knowledges that we acquire as we growing up are from the past: our languages, mores, academic subjects and so on. Actually, the definition of learning itself includes the idea of an accumulation of experiences from the past. At the very beginning, I learned how to communicate with others first as my mother taught me what she used to say under each condition. Whenver I made my mother angry, I would be aware not to make the same mistake again. Then when I was able to make friends, I found out from my own experiences what kind of people are easy for me to deal with. So next time in a new environment, I would prefer to make new friends right of my recognized type. There's a time I cried when I got frustrated because things didn't work out, but soon I realized that cry provides no help. So next time, I would not cry any more but to search for a possible solution. All through my life, I'm learning from either my past  or other's experiences, thus to shape the person right now standing here. If anyone wants to understand my behaviors or thoughts, there's certainly no better way to do it through examining my history.

The societies have been influenced even more by its past. History, that's what we call it, which provides us nearly every details of each aspect of our societies, makes it relatively easy to trace how our societies shaped and what they will be like in the future. That's why all schools required to include history in their curriculum. In fact, other subjects, either sciences or arts or literatures, are all studies inherited from the past. "It is by standing on the shoulders of the giants", we can see further and make more progresses in both arts and sciences. Learning about the history of World War I and II, we know to what degree the world will be destroyed by wars. And that potentially threatening disaster in turn prevent any chance of World War III from coming up. Learning about our nations' struggling to be stand on the international arena, we sense a deep pride of our motherlands and thus respect them more wholeheartedly than ever. In a word, only through getting familiar with the past, we understand the societies better, and can predict where they are heading for.

All in all, the past is the very thing nobody can escape from. So why not just absorb it and make a break through it at present and take a bold step into the future?
