高分新托福写作120之第五篇

In this set of materials, the reading passage casts doubts on the advantage of prescribed fire. However, the listening passage disagrees with the claim by pointing out that the tool of prescribed fire is not only effective but also economical.

First, the passage says that prescribed burning may cause serious air pollution and contributing to global warming, also the passage recommends the technique of disking. However, the lecture disagrees with it. The prescribed burning do little damage to the nature, in the opposite, the mineral ash produced by the burning could offer nutrition to the nature, also the burning result in that the sunlight could stimulate the development of vegetables. What' more, the disking cannot replace the role of prescribed burning because the burning is not hazardous.

Secondly, the passage states that prescribed fire could be unpredictable and dangerous. In contrast, the lecture suggests otherwise. It says that people who participate in it will consider a lot of factors, such as the weather, the behavior of burning, so it could be safe to burn and control the fire.

Thirdly, the passage alleges that prescribed fire calls for a lot of money. The lecture claims a different picture in this case as well. The lecture argues that the cost prescribed fire is less than the damage by the wild fire, which is ten times more than the cost of prescribed fire, not to mention the damage to the house. So, prescribed fire is a effective and economical method to protect national forest and residence.

高分新托福写作120之第三篇

In this set of materials, the reading passage claims that the giant-impact theory is questionable. However, the listening passage casts doubts on the claim by pointing out that the giant-impact theory is reasonable for the following reasons.

First, the passage says that there is no evidence of a huge mark on the surface of the Earth. However, the lecture challenges the reading passage by stating that the collusion took place 4 billion years ago, so it is possible that the collusion marks have disappeared.

Secondly, the reading passage states that the rocks on the Earth and the Moon are not similar in composition. In contrast, the lecture suggests otherwise. Because of the heat produced by collusion in the space which could lead to high temperature, the water in the rock might evaporate and went off to the space. So, the rocks on the Moon do not contain water.

Thirdly, the reading passage alleges that the density of the Moon is much lower than that of the Earth. The lecture disagrees with the passage in this case as well. It argues that the Moon is just formed by the surface of the earth and the surface density of the Earth is lower than the central density of the Earth. So, it could result in that the density of the Moon is much lower than that of the Earth.

So, the lecture is opposing to the points in the reading passage.

高分新托福写作120之第一篇

In this set of materials, the reading passage claims that the disappearance of Anasazi was caused by a severe summer drought. However, the listening passage casts doubt on the claims that the Anasazi's disappearance couldn't be related to the summer drought.

First, the passage says that the summer drought resulted in the starvation or migration of the native people. However, the lecture disagrees with the reading: the summer drought might not exist. The speaker says that there is evidence that some trees in this place have already survived for nearly a thousand year, so the existence of the summer drought is doubtful.

Secondly, the passage states that the discovery of some irrigation systems could demonstrate the shortages of water. On the contrary, the professor says that the existence of the irrigation system could prove that the people at Chaco Canyon could cope with the water well. The speaker says that the people may use the irrigation systems to develop the deserts.

Thirdly, the passage states that it is the summer drought that resulted in the migration. The lecture suggests something otherwise. The professor says that the summer drought is just a hypothesis and the drought may not severe enough to force the people to abandon their lands. The native may be attacked by other trouble, such as diseases or overuse of the farming land.

高分新托福写作120之第二篇

In this set of materials, the reading passage claims that Marco Polo's travelling to China is doubtful. However, the listening passage casts doubt on the claim by pointing out the evidence of the scholars in the reading passage is not convincing.

First, the listening passage says that although Marco Polo never picked up any Chinese or Mongolian place-name, it doesn't necessarily means that he had never been to China. Because of the cultural difference of Asia and Europe, it is normal that Marco Polo failed to pick up any names of places.

Secondly, the reading passage states that Marco Polo had never been to China because he did not mention the Chinese love of tea and the ubiquitous teahouse. However, the lecture suggests the opposite: at that time, tea was only popular in South China, it is understandable that Marco Polo failed to mention the tea because he lived in North China.

Thirdly, the passage alleges that there is no evidence that Marco Polo served at the court of the Mongul ruler or was appointed to the post of governor of Yang Zhou. The lecture suggests something different. There are some other possibilities, for example the government didn't record the name of the governor, the historical record didn't use the real name of Marco Polo, or the document had lost. So the evidence in the reading passage cannot deny that Marco Polo had been to China.

高分新托福写作120之第四篇

In this set of materials, the reading passage claims that the Tunguska explosion was caused by a "swamp gas" explosion rather than an object from outer space. However, the ideas in the lecture are just contradictory to the points in the reading passage. The lecture states that the explosion is caused by an asteroid explosion.

First, the passage says that there are no traces at the impact site so the event was not likely the result of an asteroid explosion. However, the lecture disagrees with it. The lecture states that it has been 19 years since the searching for evidence in Tunguska, and the fragments may have been destroyed by the force nature. What's more, the reason why the discovery of fragments after Canada explosion could be attributed to the quickly searching for evidence.

Secondly, the passage states that there was not an impact crater. On the contrary, the reading passage challenges the point. The asteroid did not have to crash into the Earth as an intact rock. It could explode in the lower atmosphere.

Thirdly, the passage alleges that it is the "swamp gas" that results in the explosion. In contrast, the lecture casts doubts on it. The lecture claims that if it is a gas explosion happens, there will not be only one spot of explosion. So, the event is caused by an asteroid explosion.

高分新托福写作120之第六篇

In this set of materials, the reading passage states that the transition from the cottage industry to the factory industry could be attributed to the technology advancement, a stronger legal protection for private property, and a desire to reduce production costs. However, the lecture casts doubts on the points illustrated in the reading passage by giving the flaws of the passage.

First, the passage says that transition is the advance in technology is the first cause for the transition. On the contrary, the lecture challenges the point. The lecture states that the technological development fails to play a major role in the transition, and it is the more hired workers that results in the transition. Also, those huge steam engines were still used in the cottage industry in the period.

Secondly, the passage states that the establishment of a stronger legal protection for private property could be accounted for the transition. In contrast, the lecture argues that the legal protection of private property could not help the transition. Holland also had the establishment of the legal protection for private property, but it did not lead to the transition from cottage industry to factory industry.

Thirdly, the passage alleges that the reduce of production cost contributes to the transition. However, the lecture contradicts it by pointing out that the cost of the production did not decrease. Even the cost for transportation decreased, some other, such as land cost, building cost, and the cost for supervisors, increased at the same period. So, the lecture disagrees with the passage.

So, the points in the passage are questionable.

高分新托福写作120之第七篇

In this set of materials, the reading passage states that the decline in literary readership results in a lot of negative effects. However, the lecture casts doubt on the points listed in the passage.

First, the reading passage says that our society's ability to think will decline as fewer people choose to read literature. On the contrary, the lecture challenges the reading passage. The lecture states that nowadays people have more choices, such as scientific fictions, non-fictions, which would also develop their imagination, creativity, and insight. So, our society's ability to think will not decline.

Secondly, the reading passage states that the lack of interest in reading passage may cause the cultural level of the nation to decline. In contrast, the lecture disagrees with the reading passage. It says that cultures are shifting nowadays because people have more choices. People now rely more on electronic media, such as cinemas, videos, and records, so the culture is diversified. Thus, it is not true that the cultural level of the nation decline.

Thirdly, the reading passage alleges that the decline in readship of literature will cause English literature to be marginal. The lecture refutes this point as well. It is true that the readers of literature decline in numbers, however, the lecture says that the readers should not be blamed. The writers should be responsible for the decline because the literary works are not understandable. As a result, many readers choose not to read any literature.
