With the trend of globalization in political, economical, cultural area, the extinct of endangered language is being accelerated inevitably. I agree with the author that the government of the country where lesser-known languages are spoken should intervene to prevent these languages from becoming extinct.
Language, by definition, is the instrument to communicate the idea or feeling, and a vital part of culture, which carries plenty accumulation of culture and history. To prevent the extinction of a language is to preserve the distinct cultural heritage and the ideology to the impersonal world. The consequence of extinction of language causes the irrecoverable disappearance of cultural and historical knowledge of a country. Maintenance of diversity culture is indispensable to preserve the endangered language that containing a special system and angle in understand the external world. The extinction of a language may conduces a highly simple language and retrogress and absolute thoughts.
On the other hand, languages be in danger is vulnerable to be shocked in the high-tech world. In today,s society, international community has adopted English as an official language, in the same time, learning language gradually becoming a current. As many young people thought that they could find a good job as long as they learn English well. So with the spread of common language is strengthened by the media,s power, whose culture has gradually infiltrated into our society and affect our thinking and culture, and then, watching America,s teleplay and Japan,s cartoon becoming fashionable during young people. Our culture is affected, let alone the countries with languages lesser people known. So it is possible for the governments acting to prevent such endangered language from being extinct.
However, should the governments take precedence over preserving the language in severe danger when it comes to the social problems such as poverty and lag? That is an unavoidable
question in today,s high-tech world. We can not solve the pressing social problems well that is entirely important and chronically being in existence, which plague nearly every society, when we sacrifice the preservation of language. As a result, the government should search a balance between the two issues.
Then is it enough only depending on the efforts of the governments of countries in which these languages are spoken? What should we do in preventing such languages from becoming extinct? During the process the countries going abroad and communicate with other countries in order to develop the economy, inevitably, they would be impacted by the common language. It is not enough only indigenous people realizing the importance in preserving these languages. The international communities should reach a consensus in protecting the lesser-known language from being extinct. The primary task of the government is to offer sufficient financial support and manpower to record and study the language on the brink of extinction. The special department and none governmental organization should get together to arouse the enthusiasm of people in learning indigenous language, and infiltrated its grammar, its lexicon, and its oral traditions into the daily teaching. Furthermore, the youth should be inculcated to take proud of their own history and appreciate the values and beauties of their local culture. In the international communications, the youngster should be encouraged to learn and use local languages as well as the official languages.
Language carries a lot of content, protection of endangered languages is the common responsibility of society as a whole. |
