27.Good looks and dresses are more important for success than good idears. Agree or disagree.

The chinese have an age-old adage,"Everybody has a weakness in physical beauty." In life, we find ourselves constantly confronted with the question,"Are good looks and dresses more inportant for success than good ideas?" Confucius, the greatest  philosopher and educator of ancient China, commanted,"Fine words and insinuating appearances are seldom associated with true virtue." I believe the quotation provides the answer to this question. In my opinion, appearances are highly unreliable.

To begin with, personal stories in my life show that we should not judge people by their looks. Meanwhile, the thoughts in your mind which are different from others and paticular always make u in front of them. The story of Sara, my colledge roommate and one of my closest friends, is a  perfect example. Sara just got a good job with 5000 RMB per month. When she was in her last round of the job interview , she was competing against another girl, who is gorgeous, with huge eyes dark hair fair skin and a slim figure. However, in the last round when the boss asked a question, Sara gave a constructive suggestion while the beautiful girl made an ambiguous statement and did not keep to the point , at last the boss said that Sara did a good job.

Besides personal experiences and stories, great people in the past and present prove that judging people by their outward appearences is ridiculous. Always a deep mind and a huge knowledge storage  would make people succsessful in certain areas. Take Napoleon for example. In my high school history class, I was taught that Mapoleon was a very short guy with a height of just 5'6". However, with his distingushed thoughts and ideas,he is regarded as one of thee most illustrious militory leaders and statesmen of all tiem. Can we judge Mapoleon by his "external appearances?" Absolutly no! Besides famous people from the past, a brilliant scientist of todays world offers another perfect example. The name is Stephen Hawking. After I read an article in China Daily about him, I was already touched. Due to a severe muscular desease, Hawking completly lost his ability of walking and speaking. And it published a picture of him, when I saw it, I cannot believe my eyes! He looks just horrible!However, Hawking is considered one of the most illustrous physicists of the world. Let me ask you this, "Are the good looks important?" The answer is obvious.

In sumamary, there is no way that outward apperances can be used as a reliable standard to judge a person's abbilities and success. Personal expereances great people in the past and present abound with perfect examples proving this point. Actually, this is one of the most common heritages of different cultures across the globe As a result, we should look beyond others oppearances and down into their real content.
