12.8 printed book have had greater effects on society than television has
While digital era generation emphasizes the significance of television as a vivid tool for communication, others argue against that printed book plays a more important role in our society. After a scrutiny of both media, I will point out my own idea that in modern society, printed book have a more considerable influence than does the television.

First, printed book has some functions that television cannot serve. Power from the literature is unable to be substituted by pictorial programm. In the novel Lover, written by female author Margaret Duras, literal narration of characters' emotion allows us to imagine how deep the couple looked into each other, how sorrow were they when they were forced to separate. In contrast, we are led by the movie from same story, which deprives enjoyment of imagination. Thus, we may lose opportunities to explore the further meaning of the work. Printed book also serves as a record tool to document abstract theories and profound ideas. Plato's Utopia has never been transformed into photographic video, since most of the passages have enormous difficult to be expressed by television images.

Second, printed book is still the main media to impart information due to economic and technical factors. While in some developed countries, television is used to be a crucial way to disseminate news, information, and even universities use television to offer courses to students remote from the campus. However, in most of the developing and under-developing countries, for the people who live in poor, they still through printed books to learn about the world, since printed books are cheaper and easier to access. Many needy children in Qinghai Province, one of the most backward districts in Western China, have never known about that there is a magic machine named television. They just can take advantage of their old books from charities to take courses.

Further more, some of printed books are worthy to be collected as cultural or historic relics. For example, 18th century’s English historian Giben's famous work "The History of The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire" had been reserved over thousands sets before it was republished. The limited edition copies of ancient Chinese calligrapher Wang Xizhi's calligraphic works have being collected by fans in extremely expensive prices. Try to think about that if those books are changed into digital images, would they be collected so zealously as private treasures? Thus, it’s safe to say that television images also cannot compare with printed books in such realm.

In conclusion, printed book have a larger impact on our life and our society for the reasons listed above. However, if we take advantages of both printed book and television as supplement for each other, our society may be changed faster and better.

[语言很强大,赞一个。最后一句还可以再简洁一点]

First, printed book has somefunctions that television cannot serve. Power from the literature isunable to be substituted by pictorial programm[programs]. In the novel Lover, written by female author Margaret Duras, literal narration ofcharacters' emotion allows us[the readers] to imagine how deep the couple lookedinto each other, how sorrow were they[they were] when they were forced toseparate. In contrast, we are led by the movie from same story, whichdeprives enjoyment of imagination.[这个例子因为比较深刻,改编成电影那部分可以考虑扩展成两句,阐释更详细些] Thus, we may lose opportunities toexplore the further meaning of the work. [用个furthermore之类的连接词,并列关系强调下]Printed book also serves as arecord tool to document abstract theories and profound ideas. Plato'sUtopia has never been transformed into photographic video, since mostof the passages have enormous difficult to be expressed by televisionimages.

Second, printed book is still the main media to impart information due toeconomic and technical factors. While in some developed countries, television is used to be a crucial way to disseminate news, information, and even universities use television to offer courses tostudents remote from the campus[to offer long distance courses]. However, in most of the developing andunder-developing[under developed] countries, for the people who live in poor[live in poor,有这种用法么], they stillthrough printed books to learn about the world[they still have to learn about the world through printed books], since printed books arecheaper and easier to access. Many needy children in Qinghai Province, one of the most backward districts in Western China, have never knownabout that there is a magic machine named television. They just can[they can only]take advantage of their old books from charities to take courses.

Furthermore, some of printed books are worthy to be collected as cultural orhistoric relics. For example, 18th century’s English historian Giben'sfamous work "The History of The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire"had been reserved over thousands sets before it was republished. Thelimited edition copies of ancient Chinese calligrapher Wang Xizhi'scalligraphic works have being collected by fans in extremely expensiveprices. Try to think about that if those books are changed into digitalimages, would they be collected so zealously as private treasures? Thus, it’s safe to say that television images also cannot compare withprinted books in such realm.[个人意见,这段内容有点深刻大发了。两个例子在有限的字数内都感觉意犹未尽,容易被人挑出毛病。30分钟内完成的短文,还是首先要清晰明确的说。不过楼主的思维强大和知识面广还是必然要赞的]

In conclusion, printed bookhave a larger impact on our life and our society for the reasons listedabove. However, if we take advantages of both printed book andtelevision as supplement for each other, our society may be changedfaster and better.
[总结段还用however这么强烈的词有点冒险,事实上别人读到这里已经不expect有大转折了。你可以换成of course之类的。]

总的来说黛二功底很强,佩服佩服。
