TOPIC: ISSUE103 - "The study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives."

By using the word "only", the issue asserts that there are no other values than giving direction to our daily by study of history, but this is actually not so. And besides the benefit for our own life, we can gain more from learning history.

Admittedly, many of us study history because it can give us some guidance for everyday life. History contains many stories about the success and the failures in the past, and there is much wisdom hid behind, by following these rules, we can seek the success by the nearest way. For example, when we read the Autobiography from Benjamin Franklin, we will know more about the road to be a charming person, and we can find our own road to growing by imitate him. By reading Adolf Hitler’s book <Mein Kampf>, we can know more about Hitler’s way to dictate, and avoid us from being confused by some politic leaders.

However, the study of history has other value which is not only helpful to the person but also helpful to the society. For a company who study his history, the CEO will know more about their past, and keep in mind the successful factors which should be persisted, and avoid the mistake which they have made. This insightful wisdom behind the history can lead them to a bright future. For a country who study her history, their citizens will have the memories of the past and have the sense of identity for the same culture, which will be a positive influence on the harmony of the society.

Furthermore, the study of history is actually a necessary way to record the human civilization and to find the meaning of life. History is an elder who keep telling many interesting stories about humanity to hone the sense of pride, dignity and self-worth while promoting the thoughts about values, humanity and morality. In my opinion, the genuine purpose of study on history is rooted not in reconstructing the past completely and accurately by the mere sifting of evidence for facts but rather delivering the eternal values and humanity which can illustrate the present as a light and bend the arc of future toward the hope of a better day. So when we open up a history book, it is a journey to go to a house located in the city of human civilization.

To sum up, the study of history can be a guide for everyone in everyday life, and it is also a director of our society. Moreover, it is an old wise man who looking at the past of the civilization and find ways for the future of our all.

按由个人生活到社会再到人类终极道德来写的思路很好，看了你的我感觉我的有点偏了。你的例子往往堆在那里，没有进一步分析，一带而过了，我觉得最好在例子后面在总结一下。我现在就是这么尝试的。

bend the arc of future,是指创造未来的意思，听奥巴马的演讲里也会时常出现一个类似的词，bend the arc of history，在竞选胜利的演讲里，在和青少年对话的演讲里都有，字面意思是让历史因为我们而弯曲，就是创造历史的意思
