研二退学

今天赶上最早的一批，不过7：40就到了。感觉去早了没一点用，到8点才开始排队，进去

以后再领一个号，感觉先领先签，所以建议不希望打头阵签友“猥琐”一点。
1号的cool boy最勤劳，总是第一个出台，表情十分严肃！2号的金发特别可爱，拉开窗帘

，就向大家打招呼，可能希望大家能给她郁闷的生活添一点乐趣。
本人在金发处第三个露面，总体感觉她比较负责，一般至少也要5分钟。我苦苦鏖战十几

分钟，真是从大喜到大悲，又从大悲到大喜！！！！！！！
金发：hi! Nice to meet you, how are you?………声音很挑逗，欧一惊
Me: hello! I am fine, thank you!
金发：so what will you study?
Me: I will study for my Ph.D. degree at *** university.
金发：no, no, you should listen to my questing clearly, OK, what.. will.. you

…study?
Me: Oh, Chemical engineering at *** university for my Ph.D. degree.
金发：what is your specialty?
Me: blablabla, 刚说了两个词，她就摇摇头，接着问下一个问题，真是郁闷，大段大段

的还没说呢！
金发：what is your highest degree?
Me: bachelor
金发：which University?
Me: ……….
金发：then what are you doing after you graduate?
Me: about two months ago, I am a graduate student, 有讲了准备好的理由（感觉说

去读博士，而这边再读硕士好像没什么用，欧还没说完，她就摇头。又说了这边课题进展

不顺利，资金不足等等）
金发：no enough fund? Oh, give me you undergraduate transcripts.
Me: here you are!
金发：where are you born?
Me: henan province, luoyang city, a small one but beautiful.
金发：onhen? 估计她也没听说过, then your graduate transcripts.
Me: 欧以为研究生成绩没用，而且有一两门课分数较低，所以说没带，blablab….
   但这时候形势开始恶化，她先要了我的身份证，看了以后又和旁边的cool boy商量
了一下，问我为什么身份证上的地址和我说的不一样，解释半天！并把退学证明给她看！

她不看，非要研究生成绩，faint!!!
金发：so you can’t prove that you are a graduate student at present.
Me: but it is the truth. 几秒钟以后，欧看形势不妙，估计要据了，立马又慌里慌张

拿出研究生成绩单，本以为她会很不爽，没想到金发关键时候还是灿烂的微笑，责怪我为

什么不早拿出来，看了一会儿。
金发：So what you plan after your graduation.
Me: of course come back to china, ……. Seek a research position in an
institu
te or famous university…….
金发：微笑，问我为什么你们大家的说法都一样，你们是不是经常交流
Me: J yes, some communication, but I think it is more reasonable……blabla感

觉没问题了
金发：go to wc
Me: Thank you very much!!J


总结：
1、 形势依旧好，没有硬伤的一般都过，我前面的十几个都过了，就听说交大一个因为

差4000$没过。前面科大的小妹妹就2个问题，幸福！
2、 金发笑容灿烂，和她就像聊天一样，其间只pardon了2次，她发音及其标准，听的很

爽，自然不紧张，blabla自由发挥。准备的问题用了3成.
3、 资料一定要全，关键时候一定要回答到关键点上，她们其实也不想据我们的。
4、 面带微笑很重要。
5、 感觉早去签的会好一些，至少她们会很有耐心听。

上海的f1的形势依然不错，不过今天glassboy不是水车，至少在我出来
以前他据的人最多了。和我一起的一个牛校全奖f1mm被据，另一个南大
退学的同学也是被他据。好像今天他心情很不好的样子，走来走去
，显得很不耐烦。不过我还是被glassboy叫上。

me:Morning, sir
vo:morning(毫无表情），which university  will you go?
me:tamu
vo:major?
me:atom
wo:which university are you from?
me; NJU
vo:major?
me:atom, the same as in tamu
vo:highest degree?
me:bs
vo:when do you get it?
me:last June.

vo:you mean 2001?
me:yes
vo:what are you doing now?
me:I am in a master program in NJU.
vo:blabla一大堆，忘了，好像他自己也觉得表达的不够清楚，也
  有些不耐烦接着说,ok, i mean when can you get the master
  degree in NJU if you want?
me:2004
vo:2004?so why do you give up the master program now?
当时我准备的两个方案都一闪而过，看在他那么不耐烦的份上我
决定说简单的那个，宁可接着被他盘问。
me:because the head of the department recommended me to
   Professor North in TAMU.
vo:Professor what？
me:Professor North
vo:Professor North?
me:yes
vo:Give me the letter from Professor North
把信给他
me:I do not have the letter from Prof.North, but I have the
   support letter from the head of department.
vo: the head of TAMU?
me:No.the head of NJU.
看信，突然加重语气念"she is an intelligent and dilligent guy"
哼，难道对此你还有怀疑吗？我恶狠狠的瞪着他，不过他没看我:)
不过我后来想是不是vo对guy这个词觉得有点奇怪，:)
接着看，又念了最后一句“after she finishes her phd degree,
i strongly hope she will come back to Nanjing University to
join my group"好像很满意，然后就让我去window C

其实vo一开始就问到了我的弱点，不算很友好，只是我的回答在他的
思维觉得还算合理。我觉得退学的同学最好有两边的教授的support
letter.不管什么理由，material肯定是比你说要有说服力的，让你
的老板给你去解释，当然前提是老板愿意。我觉得今天glassboy
是看了我得support letter的最后一句以后才决定给我签证的，这样
他觉得plan什么的也没必要问了。letter不要很长，这样vo可以在很
短的时间那看完，描述了具体的事实就够了，我的信也就5，6个句子。
最后即使是vo不向你要这些东西，你也要找机会把这些convincing的
东西给他看。

“我常常思维超前,”没考寄托就在考虑退学的签证问题。希望这篇能对退学的同学有所

帮助。我今天八点多进入使馆，大约是第十几个进去的。很担心会分到小glassboy那里，

听说蛮不讲理，歧视退学申请者。AB窗口交表的都有分到他手里的。我交材料后拿94号。

我觉得有很多不妙的征兆。
我的观察，叫号和签证官的分配也是随机的。我是第二个被叫到3号窗口的，是个美国大

叔，应该比我胖。就叫他US(Uncle Sam)吧。WH(walthunter)。



US在翻材料。
WH: Morning, sir.
US: (look up at me) Morning. How are you?
WH: Fine. Thank you. And you?

US: (no response.) Mr. Hunter, (升调。)Please tell me, Have you finished your

education in China? (可能看过材料，直奔主题。我在DS表上故意含糊，写的96-2002

年
在南大读本科和研究生。）
WH: I have been studying in Nanjing University for six
years........(interrupted)
US: What is your highest degree?
WH: bachelor of science.
US: You spent 6 years for bachelor of science?
WH: Oh, I spent 4 years for that degree, and then I entered the graduate
program of Nanjing University....
US: When will you get your master degree?
WH: I will get a phd directly from University of California, Los Angeles.
US: When WILL you get your master degree?
WH: (somewhat dispointed) in the year 2003.
US: Will you get the master's degree  here?
WH: (looking into his eyes, loadly)No!
US: Why can't you get the master degree for two years?
WH: I have finished all the course works and get enough credits. But Due to

the policy of our department, no one can get a master degree without three
years in the program. No ONE.
US: Why do you leave your master program?
WH: My supervisor has many many students, PhDs and Masters, I can not get
enough attention from her. She also suggested me to leave the program. I have

one supporting letter from her. Do you wanna see it?

US: (no response)What is your plan after you get your phd?
WH: I will find a teaching and research position in a good Chinese
university.

US: To teach or do research?
WH: both.
US: a professor.
WH: yes, a professor. I like that job.

US: Mr. Hunter, how long have you been in Nanjing?
WH: six years. since I started my undergraduate study there.
US: Where is your home?
WH: In Shandong Province. Lovely place, ..........
US: What does your father do?
WH: He is a peasant.
US: and what does your mother do?
WH: also peasant.
US: then who will pay your study in the united states?
WH: university of california, los Angeles.

US: Mr. Hunter(升调。), have you taken the graduate record examination?
WH: yes.
US: Show me the transcript.
WH: ok. (looking for it in the bag. give him the transcript. I got 2380.)
US: (give the materials back to me.) Congratulations, Mr. Hunter.
Blabla..vis
a...approved...success..study. usa..(The only sentence which is not clear
to me. Because I am thinking what does this congratulation mean.)
WH: Thank you! blabla.
US: .........

可信度：81%

后来在window c，有个人把我留在US那里的GRE成绩送了过来，好像还是个申请者。
回答全程无笑容。我觉得一直很被动，得说自己不愿讲的。可以看得出来还是很难。还

好也过了。听说后面他据了个南大退学的。可叹。

终于签过了,前前后后两年多的努力总算有了个结果!

我是20号下午到的,就临时住在704,讨厌的是雨下的很大,心情很不爽.我是退学的,所以对

这次1000并不是很乐观,但想想也没什么大不了的,我认为我的心态摆的还是不错的.晚上

和我gf及她同学在附近的多利川味饭店吃饭时看到一男一女两个老外,男的英俊,女的金

发，幻想会不会是VO呢,特地多看了几眼并把这个饭店的英文名记了下来,心想要是明天

碰到,可以来一句 I saw u in Tony Restaurant yesterday evening,说不定会收
到奇效:)

第二天早上雨下的还是很大,就没让我gf从她同学那里来领事馆等我.我的预约号是135,在

外面淋雨排到了9点多才进去,签证的大厅很小,没有我想象中的气派.突然看到一个VO窗口

前站着viyo红色的背影,心里祝他好运!还在排队交材料时,viyo就来WC了,自然是恭喜恭喜

!聊了几句,增加了点信心,他和我握手时说把他的喜气传给我,果不其然! 我拿到了016号

,这可是我的幸运数字之一呀!窃喜.(以前在网上闲逛,测算了一下,我的幸运数字是7,16,2

5,34这四个数字,我掐指一算,才发现自己想不幸运都难: 我的宿舍是716,学号是MG002503

4,巧吧!).

在排队等座时把这5个传说中的签证官看了个够:1号小boy,不英俊,也不可爱;2号金发,长

得蛮粗糙的,有人说有点像得鲁.巴黎摩尔,还算客观;3号大叔,的确很壮;四号大boy,黑边

眼睛,绝对英俊儒雅;5号亚裔,略黑,还算pp,但也不至于像传说中的像朱茵.可惜都不是饭

店里碰到的那两个人.

坐下来,紧张了几分钟,就好多了.我是退学的,最怕碰到退学杀手--小boy(以下简称LB),

可不幸还是被他叫到,anyway,上吧.

I: Glad to meet you on weekend,Sir!
LB:How r u today!
I: I am 24 years old.(上来就晕菜.听成了How old r u)
LB: I say how r u today
I; Oh, sorry. I am fine, but a little cold because of the heavy rain.(现在一

想,我有点感冒,应该说catch a little cold 才对)
LB: &*^%$^*& specialty?
I: Environmental Toxicology
LB: What?
I; Environmental Toxicology(讲的慢了一点), it mainly deals with all kinds of

effects, especially bad effect, on plants,animals and even human beings, of

natural and unnatural (被打断)
LB: I know that. So you r a student?
I: (开始紧张,已经切到要害了). Yes, to tell u the truth, i am still in a MS
program last month(直接就招了), but i have already completed the course work

and got enough credits, and my future advisor hope me to go there as soon as

possible, i have his words(好像说了这么一句), 把打出来的email硬往里塞,他不理,

只好拿出来.

LB:Have you completed your thesis?
I: MS program thesis?
LB:Yes
I: No, because of the stipulation of our dept that no one could get the MS
degree within 2 years, I also lose this opportunity.
LB: So you mean u quit?
I;(我还能怎么说,心想死就死了)Yes, but I do not think it is necessary for me

to get the MS degree here, because OSU will give me the PHD degree.(这句话他根

本没听)
LB: 很郑重的看着我说, Now, I have 2 questions for you!
I: Please
LB: 1) Is it usually for you to get the MS degree in 3 years?
I: yes
LB: 2) In the first year u r studying, and in second year, you r doing thesis?

I: yes, i am doing some research works in the laboratory. 看两个问题完了,又赶

紧说:my present advisor support me to do so, here is his letter for u. 拿出老

板的support letter就往里塞.
LB: I do not want it.
I: 心里想,彻底熄火!
LB:回头好像整理什么东西,几秒钟之后才转过脸来, Your transcript!
I: (我想肯定是再走走过场就据我了) Graduate or undergraduate?
LB: graduate
I: 塞进去
LB: open it for me
I: thank you. (太紧张了,此处的thank u 完全没的必要) 一下撕开,塞进去
LB 瞟了一眼, 扔出来 $%^#@%&*&, would u like to go to WC?
I: 几乎不敢相信自己的耳朵 Yes, Thank you!
赶紧撤.

整个过程大概3分钟.我现在写的很清楚,其实实不相瞒,我在解释退学时特别紧张,说话绝

对有点结巴.anyway,过了就好.由此看来,退学的战友们也不必太担心,现在连这个杀手都

不太冷了.我想他可能是觉着我比较老实,实话实说才放我的吧.所以,退学的同学如果没

准备其他的方法,像我一样准备老实承认,也不失为一条可行的路.
