In the set of materials we can know that a professional painting is regarded as the portrait of Jane Austen with several reasons in teh reading part. While, in the lecture we have heard opposite information.

To begin, the professor in the lecture tells us that the first evidence in the reading is not convinced. He thinks that Austen's family could not use the portrait to illustrate Austen's letters since the portrait was published seventeen years after Austen's death. Otherwise, the family may had never seen Austen herself and so they could not tell whether the girl was Austen.That's how the professor explains his first piont.

In addition, the professor also points out that Austen's family was a large one and there were many female teenagers and that girl might not be Austen. Furthermore, there is evidence proving that the girl in the portrait was Austen's distance niece. So the professor insists the subject of the painting is not her.

Finally, we can know that the painting was created by Humphrey.Although it is true that the painter was active during the period when Jane Austen was a teenage, professor disproves that Humphrey did not sell works at that time and he began to sell his paintings when Austen was twenty-seven. So the professor thinks the third reason is not rational.
