The speaker claims that the professors should go outside from the school to work in the society in order to improve the quality of their research and teaching instruction. However, I disagree with what the speaker asserted. Profession works in university sometimes are different from the normal job in the society. To make the faculty outside the academic world should be thought twice.

To begin with, many schools are suffering under fierce criticisms. People censure the school's research and instruction domain is so far away from the society that these works seems no relevant to the work outside the college and cannot benefit the society. Admittedly, I agree with the criticisms partly. Professors and students in the university cannot make the school look like a tower of ivory; they should not only immerse themselves in their research and care about nothing taking place in the daily life. However, we cannot urge them to devote themselves all time in the work outside the academic word. It is also too extreme.

Firstly, some academic subjects like philosophy decide that the professors and the scholars don't need to go outside from the school. Just thinking about Kant, a famous German philosopher, we will find that Kant spent all his life in a small village. And he eventually thought up his famous philosophy theory with connecting with other people in society. The work outside the school cannot benefit the scholars' research, to say nothing of that it may affect the professors' mind and baffle their studies.

Secondly, there is no good study condition in the work outside especially as for the natural scientific aspects. There are many high-tech facilities in the laboratory of university which the work in society cannot offer. So the first atom bomb was manufactured in the university not in a big company. This reality illustrated a lot.

Thirdly, some researches need an isolation atmosphere without jamming. Heidegger, another German philosopher, spent ten years living in the mountain Totenauberg. And I think that only in an isolation atmosphere can Heidegger think up his famous philosophy. Working outside the university may bring too much affairs to the research that the professors have no time to think about their academic work.

To sum up, the universities should focus their eyes on the work in society. Some of them like economists should work outside the university because their research results are based on the situation in society. But it doesn't mean that all faculty should be required to spend time working outside which may does nothing help improving the quality of instruction in university.
