Is Pragmatic More Important Than Ideal?

In most fields, one of the indexes to measure suceess is the practical value it brings, because practice can change the present and lead to a better status. However, ideal is also necessary in our life, no matter in science, business, political or daily life, which could give us hope, inspire creativity and provide confidence. Furthermore, pragmatic interacts with ideal，both of which are important for us. Sometimes practice is subsidiary and sometimes ideal.

First, we should learn that pragmatic function is the basic and essential point we should pursue. It supplies us with fundamental necessities, improves our life quality as well as social status, and gives us the proudness of acquiring more success. This is all the same as in whatever realms, from a simple family to the international. Take a family for example, with hard working of our parents, children could purchase toys, dressed well in colorful clothes, and get chance to school and dancing training class. Without parents' practical efforts and pure hope to earn money, how could we live a comfortable life now.

The role of practice is even much more evident in business field. To a production company, the direct aim is exchanging products with buyers for financial revenues. As a consultancy enterprise, the service it supplies could acquire direct monetary benefits or indirect social fame which is good for its market expansion in turn. Only through acquiring many benefits could the company reward employee enough to move on, producing much more values for employers. Head of Souhu Internet Group once said that pursuing the greatest amount of money was the responsibility of every businessman. In scientific domain, scientists are all the time trying best to encounter one after another problem they meet. It were the practical experiments that help Tomas Edison to invent the bulb which benefit the world. The importance of pragmatic is even in politics, as we all know the essectial role of government is improving people's well-beings. How could they attain this aim without pragmatic behaviors.

Secondly, we might also remember that ideal is indispensable in each field, because it is the impetus for success. Ideal is just like a beacon that lights the road in everyone's heart, with which, one will become confident, own compassion to survive and get encouragement to earn more success. Since our ancestors hope to fly as a bird, generations of people make endeavors to produce the aircrafts, thus the world is becoming convenient as a village now. As a political leader, he or she should make an ideal plan for the group he or she services. Without the blueprint, the group would advance like an animal without eyes, flexible and aimless, facing huge wall to the end.

Except for science and politics, literature and arts are typical humanity sciences that give more ideal but practical interests. Classical and popular literature works, music and paintings firstly mold people’s soul. They spark hope when we are depressed, enliven lives when we are bored and provide comfort when we feel sad. Both these functions have no relationship with practice, but can keep us healthy to do things practical. The vivid picture painted in the book of Utopia attracts thousands of people strive for it, which promotes social development indirectly.


However, pragmatic behavior and idealistic point serve each other, not independent. Sometimes, practice is the main objection and idealistic aim plays subsidiary role. While sometimes ideal is dominant view, such as the sustainable development in the circumstance ecology, every project must be serviced for this point. Ideal comes from practice and practical action cumulative to ideal status, both of which are essential in our world.

In a word, we should pay attention to pragmatic behavior in most fields for the most economic values and social values. At the same time, ideal aim also should not be neglected; all practical efforts are serviced to ideal status.
