What attitude should we hold when we are pursuing succeed in our life? The speaker argues that a pragmatic point of view is more favorable because it can guarantee your survival yet idealistic behavior would be easily superseded. From my point of view, I concede that the threshold contention the speaker holds has some merits, while the latter one is a harsh and unwarranted conclusion.

To start with, I don’t deny that there are some good points of pragmatic behavior. As most people are struggling in the on-the-go society, stresses of survival and dwelling are becoming more and more severe. Under that circumstance, choosing a practical style of making a life looks more plausible. Firstly, it for sure could provide you with a much higher possibility to survive since you only need to make short plans to make your ends meet. Secondly, as you don’t have much expectation of your future, you would be able to make quick shifts when your current life has encountered some obstacles, which means that your may drop one job without any hesitation and start another career life immediately. All of above would ensure that you would not be the first to die when a global economy turmoil take place.
However, idealistic view, in the other hand, looks like much more abstract and hard to preserve, yet it could bring us a constant support from our deeper heart. It is because that if we really have some expectation of our future, we would spare no efforts to achieve it. Therefore, a total abandonment of idealistic views is another disaster for any individual, which would definitely obstruct the development of anyone’s life. Without a proper idealistic view, one would become short-sighted and undetermined when it is time to make decisions. Such character would prevent anyone from making any major achievements. Worse still, one would be prone to lose his heart and even mislead by some wicked guys when everything around turn a cold shoulder to him, because he doesn’t have a pivot to bolster his mental world.
If we take a brief retrospect of human history, we could easily pick up a myriad of telling examples of how people with a strong ideal in their minds, getting through many ordeals and failures, succeeded at last. Before Abraham Lincoln took office in the White House, he was laid off by his employers for more than 10 times, and he also failed a number of times in starting his own business. Yet those unfortunate experiences didn’t beat him down, he finally fulfilled his dreams of a non-slave States by defeating the South.
In conclusion, as the two types of views are equally significant, we must keep a well balance of both the pragmatic and the idealistic view of life. In that the previous one may helps us to survive in a short time, yet the latter one is the only essential factor in archive any major success in our life.
