题目：The way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitudes and interests. You can tell much about a society's ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people.

Societies have ideas and values that are largely shared by their members. The values identify those objects, conditions or characteristics that members of the society consider important; that is, valuable. In other words, I agree that people’s appearance and behavior in some degree can reflect the ideas and values of society.
People in different countries have various styles of dressing, look and act. We can tell the various values and ideas in different societies through looking into their appearance and behaviors. These ideas and values of society are shared by their people. Foe example, the French dress romantically, love drinking wine, enjoy slow life style. Most of the French regard happiness is more than anything else. From their dressing, talking and working, we can tell that the ideas and values of French society are romantic. In contrast, the Japanese like dressing formally, talking politely. Loyalism is regarded most important quality in one’s life. Behaving friendly and dressing formally is a way to tell others they have good quality of loyalty. So that people’s appearance and behaviors is like a mirror of their society which can let others know quickly about their ideas and values.
People in different times will have different dressing and acting even if in the same countries. This can also reflect the ideas and values of society at different period. The Chinese people, for instance, are deeply influent by the confuciansim in the old days. In those days, people dressed conservative. Physical contact between a man and a woman except husband and wife is regarded incivility. Women should stay at home before they get married. So dressing conservative and keep women at home is one way to help no contact between man and woman. We can know that people at that times valued manners. On the other hand, after the reform and open policy of Deng Xiaoping, the Chinese people are influent by the western ideas little by little. They begin to purpose freedom, outgoing personality and diversity. So many people nowadays always dress in different styles. It can show others that the Chinese people value freedom, rights in some way.
In different occasions, people will dress, act diversity. Usually, society’s values and ideas are related to the norms of a culture, but they are more general and abstract than norms. For example, flying the national flag on a holiday reflects the value of patriotism in most countries. People should dress formal, show gazing respect and stand up at the moment of raising flag. In western countries, wearing dark clothing and appearing solemn are normative behaviors at a funeral. They reflect the values of respect and support of friends and family. Different occasions reflect different values.
In conclusion, we can tell the ideas and values through observing the people’s dress, look and act in some degree. However, if you want to know more about the ideas and values, you must look into their cultures and histories. Only in that way, you can understand the character, behaviors in different societies exactly.

1. manner儒家中的“礼”有很多种含义，具体用英文怎么说，真的有点摸不着头脑，就像张艺谋在奥与会开幕式上的“和”字，也无法用一个简单的单词概况出来，总之谢谢小灵同学的指出。如果有更好的单词，不妨告诉我，谢谢～
2. purpose freedom是什么意思？ 我本来是想写pursuit freedom, word没有将单词拼写显示出来，不好意思！
3. 如果你想表达的是行注目礼，应该是salute with eyes。 行注目礼是在谷歌上面查的，由于行注目礼的表达方式很多，也没有好好研究到底这些有什么区别，就直接引用了，谢谢你的指点。
