“Students should bring a certain skepticism to whatever they study. They should question what they are taught instead of accepting it passively.”

很久没写过英语作文了,一点感觉都没有,大家帮忙看看哈,给点建议啦~~

According to the speaker, students should have the character of skepticism, and they cannot accept what they have learnt without questioning it. I fundementally agree with the speaker that skepticism can exert positive effects on students in some ways. However, undue skepticism sometimes can be counterproductive.

Being skeptic is not a radical way of thinking, but a logical thought process. It is important for healthy skepticism to keep students minds open to new ideas, and to prevent them from becoming unthinking dogmatists with no individuality. For instance, with skepticism, Galileo did the famous experiment on the tower of Pisa and finally found out the law of uniform accelerating of falling bodies. So skepticism is a healthy outlook that doesn’t hinder our society, as some may have you believe, but benefits it.

In addition, society changes faster, we cannot ensure that what we have learnt would be outdated in some day. So students need to accept the knowledge positively, not only receive it. Students should have their own comprehension about what they have been taught. And if there is something they think is not right. They should question it bravely. For example, with skepticism, Albert Einstein found out the limitation of the classical mechanics which was in dominant for hundreds of years and proposed the principle of relativity which brought the physics to a new era.

Despite students should be encouraged to question what they have been taught, there are some disadvantages of the skepticism. Firstly, students may too young to judge one thing whether it is right or wrong, under this circumstance, skepticism is meaningless. They need a teacher to guide them. Secondly, as the limitation of the students’ knowledge, skepticism may push them into confusion. So wasting too much time on questioning books and the professor’s ideas they have learnt is not wise.

To sum up, I agree with the speakers that students should question what they have learnt, this is benefit a lot to them, as long as the skepticism base on some logical ideas or correct theory.
