提纲:1、教育的真正目的要求我们教育要针对个体的特点;
2、不同的小孩学习习惯,背景,认知能力都不同,应该以兴趣为导向,发展适合个体的教育模式;
3、兴趣是出发点,但是不可偏废。学校教育可以提供全面的知识教导;
4、道德教育也是重要组成部分,是我们行为的准则。
Issue 51 Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student.
The true merits of education
The speaker asserted that education should be designed due to personal characteristic,so that its final purpose can be truly realized.I agree in so far that qualified education should focus on one’s personal life and emotions to make everyone growing to become farseeing and reasonable citizen also productive practitioner. Also, moral principles will help children establish personal views of life as well as their value systems which can be equally important as knowledge and techniques.
In the first place, it is basically owing to the fundamental purposes of true education that meeting individual's need and interest is essential for education. First,any enterprise of civil society lies in educating young people to become responsible, thoughtful and enterprising citizen which can be the main force of social development; second, progress in every practical field depends on having capacities that schooling can educate which make the education a mean to foster the individual’s, society’s even the humanity's future development and prosperities; and third, one’s individual development and capacity to fulfill his purposes primarily relies on an adequate preparations in childhood. These three aspects reveal that true education means personal improvement and moving forward to acquaint oneself to society then change it into a better place. Different individual contains different capabilities while different cognition on assimilating knowledge. That is why we emphasize the importance of educating individually.
Secondly, children each have their own learning customs, diversity of educational backgrounds and variety of interests, which makes the education procedures more complex and obligate for each person. There is an old saying that: Interests are best teachers. Only through pertinence curriculum set for one's own ability and interests can children learn true knowledge fit for their demands and of course with high proficiency. When Kaifu Lee entered the University of Columbia at a high mark to study politics as the idea of his father, he didn't realize that whether this is what he really wanted. After the courses proceeding, he suddenly felt it tough for him to concentrate on this discipline while his interests definitely focused on computer science so deeply, then he transferred himself from politics to the department of computer science without any hesitation, although politics in University of Columbia is dominant while computer science is under development. Now we can see his great achievement on computer science which brings about nearly a revolution in modern speech recognition system. To say definitely, today’s accomplishment should be contributed entirely to his determinacy and clear understanding on his interest. He followed his mind and chose curriculum and specific education to amplify his expertise, and finally succeed.
On the other hand, interests are instructors while we can not let them handle entirely what we will study, that is to say, just interest is far from enough. Imagine that a child majored in mathematics, doesn’t he really need education on literature and art? The significance of school education is mainly obvious to provide a set of necessary curriculums for children to study the entire accumulation human society developing till today, consider that learning the human assets of the world will be so proud and expend our horizons. For literature and arts can give endless imaginations about fantasy and a ideal world which are insufficient in the real world, while the graceful words and expressions are kinds of enjoyment for our souls and in some way encourage our professions. That is why college curriculums included also general literature, basis of philosophy and psychology outline for natural science students while introduction of Life Science, general mathematics and general statistics for humanity students. Interests distinguish us from others while full understanding of every discipline enlarges our vision, making imaginations flying in our minds.
Finally, moral principles are indispensable for individual's development and one's improvement. Education on moral standards should be combined with history and political innovations to express this kind of democratic essence for public and society. Children must have a general idea that their thoughts, behaviors, and any personal activities are ruled by these principles such as respect for others' work, tolerance people who hold different viewpoints and wholeheartedly in every field of work.
In summary, I agree education based on personal's demand will be truly effective. Interests help to find directions plus some essential knowledge and moral standards. But reality is that our educational system can't afford the personal pertinence education to replace the spoon-feeding model. Maybe that will be our future goal to achieve. |
