After appreciating the works of Van Gogh, one British critic once said "Van Gogh used all his might to pursue the most simple and ordinary thing in the world, which is the Sun." Do most of the people know how the arts represent the inside world of a society? Different people have variety answers. However, there are common views in people’s mind. It is that the arts represent ideas and wishes of people as well as a society. Moreover, the arts can evoke the sympathetic response in the heart of people in a society. The arts reveal what a society think highly of.

In the first place, the arts represent goodwill of a society. There are many kinds of artistic forms. And painting is most representative one. Van Gogh’s Sunflower is one of highly regarded works in the world. People are always attracted by its vivid color and emotional impact. After understanding the background of this painting, we know about how lonely the situation of Van Gogh was. Why, you may wonder, should Van Gogh paint these warm colors? Because Van Gogh longed for sense the warmth of human being, and pursued ideal world in his heart. His paintings reveal Van Gogh’s wishes also the goodwill of that society. In those days, many people lived poor, a life of difficulty made the people hard. They wished a better society with well and warmth. That is very import component of a better society. And when we hear this song from Michael Jackson Heal the World, we will always pay our attention to build a better society. We all know how important to construct a fair, peace world is by listening to this song. And that is also the ideas and impulses of a society.

By reading the arts, we will know more about what a society thinks highly of. As we all know, the Statue of Liberty, located in New York, is a present given to the United States by the people of France to represent the friendship between the two countries established during the period of American Revolution. The Statue of Liberty is a symbol of freedom which people always seek for.
We can know more about the experience of American people fight for freedom and their thinking highly of freedom.
