Children will be the pillars of our society someday in the future. Therefore, how they are socialized is one of the key factors which determine the destiny of society. In order to bring about a better society, we should raise children properly. In fact, we still have many things to do to achieve this goal.

Socializing children is to help them learn our culture and how to live within it. That is, imparting them vocational skills, helping them build self-identity and teaching them how to communicate, cooperate and put up with others. From these aims of socialization, one can see the importance of socialization of children. To some extent, how children are socialized determines what our society will be. For example, Sparta which was a city-state in ancient Greece trained their children to be soldiers in their early age. As a result, the Spartan are always of great courage and disciplines and thus, Sparta become one of the most powerful states in Greece.

Reversely, if we cannot socialize children well, the ensuing problems will be detrimental to our society. Today we always put too much emphasis on imparting children academic knowledge or vocational skills. Meanwhile, to some extent we neglect to build self-identity and cultivate cultural values for them. The aftermath is that more children can hardly adapt to their roles and become more egocentric and treacherous. An extreme example is school bullying. If we do not handle this, more violence will emerge when these children grow up.

So how should we raise our children who can help bring about a better society? Each member of our society should make their effort to cope with this issue. As for parents who are the first teacher of their children, they should make a good example for the next generation and spend more time with them. As for schools which also play an important role in education, aside from teaching academic knowledge, they ought to provide more chance for children to communicate and cooperate with each other. And the mass media also needs to make adequate healthy TV programs and books available to children.

In sum, there are still many things to do to bring up our children healthily. Since children are the mainstay of future society, everyone should make their effort to help them grow up. Only if the children are socialized properly, can we anticipate a harmonious, tolerant and cooperative society.
