"It's a practical time." people nowadays always sighed，"even little kids are taught to be pragmatic." In fact, people are pursuing the pragmatic unprecedentedly. Many people belive that only taking pragmatic views could one achieve success. However, rather than taking a pragmatic view it is through an idealistic view that people achieve true success.
Before deeply exploring, we need firstly get a clear definition of success. For thousands of years, people talked about success, and try all best to achieve success. However, not everyone truly know the simple fact that success is just the achievement of one’s individual value and social value-being satisfied to oneself and being active for the development of the time he or she lives in. Only keeping these standards firmly in mind could solve the myth of success between pragmatism and idealism.
To succeed the most basic is to survive at first. Actually, just as the author cited, it is the pragmatic behavior but not the idealistic behavior that guarantees survival. History sees so many idealistic lives who pitifully missed their beautiful dream just because they are too idealistic to accept and adapt in the real world. Take ourselves as example; nearly all of us have ever dreamed an excellent world which we lately we found is wholly not the same as the real one.
Some hate the reality and addict themselves in the pity for the missing the realistic, and finally digressing from the real world; however, others after a short time adjustment, wipe out tears, face the practical world, go forward-survived. We all know those who finally succeed would come from the survived. In a word, being too idealistic won't get us the ideal life but it would only hurt, by contrast being pragmatic survive us.
However, survival never equals success. Thousands of people survive, but only small parts finally succeed-they are the one who live in the practical world but still insist their idealistic dreams, never give up. Just as we have cited above, true success comes from the achievement of self-value and social value. Those totally pragmatic people won't achieve true success, cause being wholly pragmatic means being current, thus those totally pragmatic ones would gain none progress but the current, for themselves a totally practical life would be boring and hopeless, for the society the existence of totally practical individuals means no fresh air-stasis is just in the way.
By contrast, it is those who not only survive but also keep on pursuing their idealistic world that makes the world better. Just imagine what if our ancestors gave up their idealistic or even ridiculous(conceived at that time) views, then Copernicus would never care about whether the earth is planet or round, sociologists would absolutely support their time despite of whether there still existed many unbearable problems needed to be solved badly, businessman will be addicted in the joy of making money by all means carless of whether their behaviors damaged the customer and society, politicians would take every chance to earn themselves more profit regardless of
the people are living or dying, just imagine it - the world without idealists struggling for their dream, their beliefs, for a better world, would there exist success？ Absolutely, not. So, insist on your dream, cause only in this way would ourselves and the time we live achieve success.
To sum up, not easy to achieve success, To achieve the success for you, we must firstly turn practical to survive and fight on, but always keep the idealistic in heart, pursue it bravely. Only in this way could we go beyond the current, make it a better world- success.
