“Governments must ensure that their major cities receive the financial support they need in order to thrive, because it is primarily in cities that a nation’s cultural traditions are preserved and generated.”
政府必须要确保主要城市发展所需的财政支持，因为一个国家的文化传统主要是在城市中得以保存和发展。
When asked about the culture’s preservation and generation, currently people in ever-increasing number are becoming aware of the importance of the government’s financial support to the big cities, for the cities are the culture’s origin land and the place to thrive. Although many people may embrace this assertion wholeheartedly, I have my reservations. Apparently, the human’s cultural traditions can be preserved and generated insufficiently only in that way. As a consequence, apart from the financial support to the cities, we should take other measures to protect the culture in the cities or even other areas such as the rural or the desert which may probably keep the cities of the old traditions.
No deny that the brilliant culture mostly stems from the region with high-developed economy and heavy-density population, besides, these areas have developed into the big cites we see today in most cases. Think about the Rome City, which is listed as one of the world cultural heritages, and this romantic city records the glory of the empire. The shadows that reflect the culture appears everywhere, when you are walking in this old city. The perfect reservation of the city owes to the investment of the government, meanwhile due to the attention, the education to protect the city plants deep into the citizens. People living there cherish the meaningful culture and tradition obtained hard in the way to guard them with heart and soul, such as the popularization of the claim not to destroy or mess up. Through this example, we see the right and wise choice to preserve and develop cities by the financial support.
Admittedly, only in the financial way to support the cities’ cultural traditions is also counterproductive. Too much economical endowment constraints the further development of the culture, as the anti-direction people looking forward to. It is not the situation we expected. When money is consistent with something, a myriad of commercial elements distort the normal case as its right trail. Businessmen seize the money-roiling opportunity to make profits to the maximum, regardless of accounts such as environmental protection. Government must take into further consideration as the secondary step during the process of cultural traditions’ preservation.
Furthermore, apart from cities, other areas such as desert or rural have their unique significance to the cultural traditions, and government should give the strong support. Nowadays, with the increasing development of economy and technology, the pace of the city life is fast compared with the old era. Citizen need to release themselves and enjoy the life out of their high speed working stuffs. Natural scenes like gorges, deserts, or rainforests, transmit the spirit and desire of pursuing freedom and instinct of our humans, which is also called the original traditions. Obviously, we should warn people not to ignore the important state other regions.
In summary, while some people may remain unconvinced by my argument, the reasons I have analyzed so far should at least make them aware of the complexities of the issue under discussion that human’s cultural traditions are contained not only in cities, but also in other areas, and government offer other support to make culture thrive besides financial endowment.
