I fully arguer (agree?) with the speaker's claim that anyone can make things bigger and more complex for the reason that it is roots in human instinct. And it is true that progress to simplify things requires real effort and courage, for the work of simplifying things includes not only cutting off but also integrating.
First of all, it's true that anyone can, even desire to make things bigger and more complex, because it is a vivid exposure of human instinct that human is greedy. It's not hard to discover that almost every person incline(s) to make one's life more colorful, therefore they fill all kinds of activities with their schedule involuntarily which make life bigger and more complex. And for the same reason, companies tend to maximize their own enterprise through innumerous method, such as taking over competitors, to enlarge their own market share. Things go the same when referring to a country, who tries one's best to extend the dominion. All these needn't much courage because it fits for human instinct of greedy.
In effect, enough courage are needed to make things as simple as possible, after all the concept of simplify acts against our human nature. Consider present human life we are living. With the help of technology accomplishments and advantages of modern society system, human beings have less time worrying about bread and butter and can live longer than ever. However we seem busier and more exhausted than ever before. Why? Can't you see that we, unconsciously stuff activities ten times more than our grandparents in just the same time--24 hours a day, 366 days a year at most. The true free time is used to seek the essence of life, but not to participate some entertainments which we don't actually need. To make our life simple, some more courage should be involved to cut things off.
Moreover, the work of simplifying things calls for real efforts too. Making things simple does not mean to cut things off, but it also contains the process of integrate big and complex things into a simple one. The technology is doing very hard just for simplifying our life. Endless story show that real effort and courage are needed in doing scientific researches. Take computers for example. ENIAC--the first computer invented in 1946, was as large as half of a football court. Alone with hard working of scientists, now the computer are designed just palm-sized, however more functions are added that make it more powerful . Take the success of iPhone as another example, it is the extreme design that captivated thousands of millions of customers. It is a truly convergent which combine a palm, a video player, a broadcast into a cell phone. It make our life easier………However, behind the extremely simple design is the extremely high technology, which need effort and courage.
To sum up, to make things simple contains not only cutting things down, but also integrate complex into simple. And for the greedy instinct of human races which tend to make things bigger and more complex, it really calls for real effort and courage. |
