2.8 Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Being creative, rather than planning carefully, will come up with best solution to a problem.
Which quality should a person have to solve a problem with best solution, being creative or planning carefully? For my part, these two factors are not necessarily mutually exclusive. And when combined together, they can contribute to the best solution for solving problems. Here goes my explanations as below.
Firstly, I would like to argue that being creative plays an important role in coping with problems. As known to everybody, the progress of human's civilization derives from people's spirit of innovation. Various kinds of difficulties, simple or tough, did not show up only once in the history, which, however, appeared once and once again. At the first moment when we encounter the problem, we might deal with it with extremely primitive or laborious ways. With the development of human intelligence, innovation has brought about series of efficient solutions for these formerly complicated problems. Without the invention of paper, human now could still document on bamboos or rocks; without the advent of telescope, the research of the universe may still base on flesh-eye observation. Consequently, without being creative means no breakthrough from the convention and of course no progress.
Secondly, only being creative should not be adequate for people coming up with best solution for problems. The sense of well planning and preparation also serves as efficient as the spirit of innovation. There is an old saying in China (and I paraphrase) that no lost battle comes after knowing ourselves and the enemies. Therefore, by careful observation and planning before the execution of the solution, we can get a full-range and clear recognition of the situation or problem so that we can carry out appropriate policies to solve them, which can also save our time and avoid unnecessary waste of energy and failure. The most talented student can not get a satisfying score in the exam without deliberate review of what he has learned in the class; a brave and gifted general would not beat his enemies without fully understanding the shortcomings of his enemies and his own advantages.
In sum, in order to solve problems with the best solutions, people do not have to rule out any of these two valuable qualities as being creative always offers people the most convenient shortcut towards the result and the sense of planning well provides people with clear understanding of the problem.
