I fundamentally agree with the speaker that the most direct way to indicate a great nation is the general welfare of all its people. However, when we dig the issue deeper, we would fighter out that the welfare of a nation's all people is only the superficies of all the methods which can judge a nation on its greatness, the most radical indicator of a great nation is the achievements of all its rulers, artists, and scientists.

Admittedly, if one wants to judge whether a nation ids great or not, the most direct and genuine way is to observe the general welfare of all the people in the country, despite any misleading politic shows or scientific fakeries. Since it is known to all that general welfare of a nation's citizens can be reflected in many aspects such as living easement and the satisfaction of the citizens. A nation's greatness should be reflected on whether the nation has settled down all the fundamental problems which are distressing our citizens. While, the satisfactions and living easement of general citizens, in turn, indicate the greatness of a nation clearly.

However, when we analyze all the superficial phenomenon displayed directly in front of us, we may find out that the radical reason that one nation can keep its greatness is the achievements of the rulers, artists and scientists. After all, those people are elites and representative roles of a nation.

First consider the scientists' achievements which probably lead to developments of individual's living condition and easement. The main idea of science and scientific accomplishments are to make people easier to live: no need to worrying bread and butter, while in the same time, have more free time to participate leisure entertainments. And the higher technology a nation is adopting to their citizens, the higher level of easements will be accomplished by majority. Thus, scientists' achievements are surely the indicator of a great nation.

Then consider the rulers of a nation, which may be the major cause of individual's behavior on satisfaction. Only the governments--our ruler, offer us more acceptable policies in all kinds of field, can our citizens feel more satisfaction. Tax with reason, medical treatments which most of people can afford with, developments on public service will all improve the satisfaction level of its people and raise more confidents on the current government.

What's more, as the reflector of internal feeling of majority, artists accomplishments is also the indicator of a great nation. Take painting as an example, the masterpiece of “Mona Lisa” created by Italian artist da Vinci during the Renaissance shows invaluable artistic value. It reflects not only the genius of da Vinci, but also the profound sedimentary deposits of Europe culture. The painting is a reflection of daily life as well as a great indicator of the greatness of a powerful nation.

To sum up, the critique of whether a notion is great or not is varied in many ways, and the most direct way is the general welfare of all its people, but after a full analysis, we will clearly see that the most radical indicator of a great nation is the achievements of all its rulers, artists, and scientists.
