Technology creates more problems than it solves, and may threaten or damage the quality of life.

Technology is a double edged sword in any societies. We can use the sword to break through the barriers on the way to an advance perspective; at the same time, we may hurt ourselves when holding it carelessly. However, throughout the history, the sword of technology is used more for solving problems and leading us to a better life than for creating problems and threatening our life quality.
The original motivation to exploit technology is for solving problems rather than creating troubles, so it always has more effect on improving people’s lives. Technology is defined as the practical use of scientific knowledge in industry. It is first that we face some intricate troubles, and then we go for the knowledge to adopt a possible solution.
Living in the beginning of first industrialization with the urgent shortage of the propulsion, Watt took advantages of his mathematic and engineering background to exploit the technology of highly-efficient steamer, which brought an earthshaking change of a more efficient and convenient life to Englanders at that time. While, rarely do we tend to practice our science knowledge intentionally to worsen what has already annoyed us. Thus, even though the troubles may come forth unexpectedly with the technology, the original motivation determines that we will cautiously avoid them to achieve what the technology is born for to solve problems rather than create them.
The application of technology is a phase of selecting for better ones and aims at the overall developments. With a clear idea on the motivation to exploit technology, we can see that the use of technology is just like an experiment to find the fittest. If a new technology is invented, causing more other troubles than it can solve, the user will try to seek other possible and available way to instead. For example, the technology of extracting tin in ancient times is dangerous and difficult, which may cause poisonous and death. And the result is that tin becomes a more precious material than gold.
However, the need drives knowledge transforming into new technology, which substitute the old ones and makes the extraction safer, cheaper and easier. Then, tin, which used only among the extravagant upper class for decoration, becomes the common material in daily life and is widely used in containers, cooking and mechanics. In such scope, the practice of technology is always a process of encouraging the good and eliminating the bad, which guarantees that technology solves more problems than it causes. Therefore, such process of selection for more effective and efficient ones is certain to lead the positive social influence to improve people’s quality of living.
Admittedly, the negative influence always goes along with the use of technology, but they cannot deny the significance of technology as long as we human can consciously handle the practice. As the highly developments of nowadays technology, the concerns for the potential negative influence are increasing as much as the speed of new technology being exploited. We see the hackers steal the confidential information to rob the bank and ransack the user’s documents; we are frightened by the nuclear weapons hundred miles away; we annoy the harmful radiation of the sun shining through the ozone hole when outing because of the refrigeration technology and we suffer the atrocious weather more frequently than before because of side effect of the traditional energy technology. Of course, before we notice those problems technology creates, we cannot neglect the dominant power technology offers to usher us into a more civilized, advanced and convenient life. After all, the most important role to decide the final judgment of technology is still our human. Technology is created and developed for solving problems and improving developments for the overall. As long as the problems come forth with its application and aggrandize, people take measures to guarantee the correct direction and preventing the technology going astray, such as nowadays new energy technology and safer internet protections. If we keep the ideas of what technology is really for in mind, the catastrophe and nightmare of technology destroying our lives will not break into the reality.
In conclusion, the instinct of technology favors to doing the society more goodness than evilness. Every coin has two sides, so does for technology. Causing or solving problem is just the two sides of such a coin, but we can choose and handle to see which side more.
