Issue147 Tradition and modernization are incompatible. One must choose between them
The problem of preserving tradition and developing modernization has caused headaches for some people. They consider tradition and modernization are exclusive to each other. However, I find that the two objects somewhat existing as a relationship like grandfather and grandchild. They are not enemies that are incompatible, but family members which depend on each other.
Someone would argue that the two objects are of conflicts, it sounds incredible to describe them as familyhood. To be true, there remains discrepancy between tradition and modernization. Nevertheless, these conflicts are just like generation gap, not incompatible, but to adapt to each other. Parts of tradition can not catch up the development of our modernized world. We can cast away these laggards, but not negate all. To illustrate, though, some universities are experimenting with new ways of funding, forging partnerships with private companies and engaging in mergers and acquisitions, they never give up their school spirit as the roots of them. The reforming tornado is to accommodate the huge growth in the number of student and globalization. The school spitirt, as a tradition, is still important to the universities. They are harmonious and depend on each other.
To be more convinced, think about our personal lives, the easiest way for us to acquire an experience-based insight on this issue that tradition and modernization can coexist in this planet. With the development of technology, people can send emails, or write a few words on the facebook to give bension to our friends. Even more, through I-phone or computer, people can express their benefiction ‘face to face’. However, these ways never serve as an obstacle for us to send Christmas cards. Thus, post office won’t close down with the development modernized electron firms. Kimono won’t disappear even T-shirts and jeans are popular in the current world. The Baroque and Gothic are stand with skyscraper side by side. It is everyday observation that tradition and modernization are coexit in the world. People who consider the two are imcompatible are driving themselves to a blind alley. Finally, it will be better for us to look further about the reason why tradition and modernization are not exclusive. Tradition, defined as an inherited, established, or customary pattern of thought, action, or behavior. While, modernization involves the recent techniques, methods, or ideas. They have the same essence. Both of them are the ways that people behave and think. The only difference is the time. Perhaps hundreds years in the future, the modernization will become the tradition. Since they have the similar essence, the imcompatible theory is somewhat mistaken. The best way to deal with the two objects is keep the soul of the tradition and catch up with the modernization. In conclusion, tradition and modernization are not incomptable, they could coexist. Though, people stand to see some loss of valued traditions to the advancement of modernization, tradition is inherited from one generation to another, and human beings are continuously creat the tradition for the future. |
