TOPIC: ARGUMENT14 - The following appeared in a memo from the owner of Green Thumb Gardening Center, a small business serving a suburban town. 

"There is evidence that consumers are becoming more and more interested in growing their own vegetables. A national survey conducted last month indicated that many consumers were dissatisfied with the quality of fresh vegetables available in supermarkets. And locally, the gardening magazine Great Gardens has sold out at the Village News stand three months in a row. Thus, we at Green Thumb Gardening Center can increase our profits by greatly expanding the variety of vegetable seeds we stock for gardeners this coming spring."

The author concludes that Green Thumb Gardening Center(GC) can increase their profits by expanding the variety of the stockage of vegetable seeds. Yet the evidence he cited fail （fails, evidence不可数，加单数谓语）to substantiate this conclusion firmly.

First, the national survey lends little suggestion to the local situation. Given no information about the distributing area, vocations, incomes and interests of respondants（respondents注意拼写）, I am not convinced that residents here share same traits with those interviewees and thus the result of the survey can be readily applied. Possibly, people here enjoyed high-quality vegetables that they seldom vented complaint. Or, they turned to local groceries（嗯，grocery，加深拼写印象） and farms for food when dissatisfied by supermarkets. As growing vegetable may consume （+a）significant amount of time and energy, local residents, who may be too devoted to their work or leisure pleasure to spare extra attention, may refuse to grow them. 

Second, though Great Gardens(GG) has sold out recently, the author fails to rule out other explanations, apart from its specious popularity, that lead to the same result. Possibly, it is exactly because of its unpopularity that stand owners stocked less GG and thus the magazine was sold out sooner than other kinds. Or, GG launched a new promotion with （+a）nice prize for readers which, instead of the magazine's contents, appeals to more subscribers. Besides, the author fails to mention the sales of other agricultural magazines. If GG were but the only one that sells better while the sales of other of its kind suffered, then the so-called passion for agriculture is dubious. 

Again, the contents （the content）of GG remains untold. Given its name( Great Gardens), possibly it accounted largely on flowers or plants for decoration that are usually planted in gardens. There might be no instruction for vegetable cultivation at all. In that, how can the author assert the reader be （+the） ardent vegetable-planting lover?

Even assuming people here indeed want to grow more vegetable, the author irrationally expand （expands）the conclusion to the increasing variety of vegetable seeds. Since he offers nothing on the preference and tastes of local people, nor the feasiblity （feasibility，不要漏掉i）of planting of each kinds（kind） of vegetables, it is possible that citizens favor some specific kinds, but not all species. Or, local weather and soil conditions hamper the growth of some kinds of vegetables. Either of possiblities（possibility又漏i了） undermine（s） the potential sales of those seed（s） storage（去掉storage）. Besides, more stock means more spending（spending加深拼写印象，是e不是a） on preservation and stockage. Unless the author can convincingly prove that the increasing revenue will offset the growing cost, his proposal remains indefensible.

In sum, the author mistakenly not only confuses the situation of （+the） nation and that of locality, but also omit（s） important informations when making decisions. To evaluate or amend his conclusion, he should collect further information on people's attitude for self-planting and local situations.
