Ever since ancient time, artists created numerous works to reveal their own feelings and influence people to speculate outside word and human spirit. Also, critics' comment is a wonderful path to understand art and to learn from them. In this sense, both artists and critics are significant for our society to obtain lasting value.

First of all, it is undeniable that art, as a kind of transcendalism, is a important way to explore our empirical word. Artists' works  offer a  profound dimension to  exam our live, since they are more inclined to reveal some essential but always be neglected value and impulse. Raphael, for instance, is one of the most important artists in human history. His paintings of Madonnas with ground and gentle face is a sort of sign of humanity. Through his paintings, we can easily find that human nature has been highlighted and holy spirit is no longer the only aim to create arts. His paintings encourage the awareness of humanity and people then started to pursue the free expression of their feelings and desire. Duchamp, as another example, is a modern artist. He once add a mustache to Monalisa. Although such behaviour destroy our cherished image of a great painting, its rebel spirit always encourage people to doubt and create new works. Thus, artists, such as Raphael and Duchamp, reveal the humanity and asceticism to us, which are valuable for the society forever.

On the other hand, critics also play a vital role in offering something of eternal value by  advancing the communication between people and arts. For some arts are difficult to understand because of its deep thinking and advanced idea, and in this situation, critics are really helpful. For example, Ibsen , a major playwright in 19century, created a play called A Dull's Home. It describes the process of the awareness of Nora's self discovery and in the end, Nora left his husband for pursueing herself. At that time, nothing is more holy than covenant of marriage, therefore Ibsen's work is totally unacceptable. Yet some critics evaluated his play as an examination to that society without prejudice. Crtics' judgements help more people to understand the meaning of this play and receive the idea that women and men are equal in social position. Today Ibsen's play can be seen all the that's without changing to a happy end. Thanks to critics, our society attain such precious value.

Further, critics' explanation can reveal meaning and value which even artists themselves do not aware of that. Since critics may deepen the thought from an art or extend its meaning. Sarreno's controversial works Piss Christ is a good example. Currant said this photograph is just a meaningless work. However, some critics argue that this work emphasize the theme of religion. Because for thousands of year, body suffering and body fluids are the sign of religion. Yet nowadays people just care for its holy and elegant appearance. Sarreno's work criticize those people who forget their faith. Thus, adding their own opinions, critics make a artistic work more meaningful and insightful.

To sum up, it is very difficult to tell which one is more important between artists and critics, yet one thing is sure, both of them give society something of eternal value.
