Education, primarily affect the youth, is a significant factor influence the country’s future. When it comes to the issue that should every student learn the same curriculum before college, there arouses a drastic debate. It is hard to agree with any absolute point, combine the same national curriculum and the local feature would be a wise choice.
First of all, the obvious merit of unify the national curriculum is to provide the students learn the same thing before attend college. As a consequence that the students in colleges are comes from countrywide, if they learn the different curriculum before it, arranging the college courses will become a tough work. My own experiences is a example, in order to complete the courses, the math professors had to leave the few students, who come from the region did not have the prepare curriculums about advanced mathematics. Unifying the national curriculum make a good performance on deduce the students’ learning differences before attending the college.
In addition, the same national curriculum is good for the college to recruit students. If students learn the different curriculum, it is hard to have a fair standard in college recruit. China, for instance, one of the best countries for education, has a great problem in the unbalance education between provinces. Taking the different curriculum, every province makes the test paper to college receipt themselves. As a result, there is hardly a fair recruit, and many good students can not attend a fine college. So, unify the national curriculum can make a contribution to the fair education.
Although there is plenty merits of unify the national curriculum, on the contrary, it is far from flexible education system. To narrow the differences between regions is necessary; indeed, the different outside condition can not be eliminated. Some regions may not have the ability to open some curriculums, such as swimming, physics or chemistry experiment, or the psychology, philosophy. Not only had the condition limited the curriculums, the local characteristics is also important. Like local literature, local music curriculums. The same national curriculum has the limits and has some flaw in local culture’s development.
Further more, some special schools are not suit for the unified national curriculum, art school, technique school or agriculture school, for instance. There is no necessity for them to learn the same national curriculum, but they need the specialty curriculums to intensify their skills. Dancing, art history, agriculture technology is redundant for normal students, so conform with the national curriculum is not an appropriate manner for their education.
All in all, due to the above mentioned words, education is very important to a country’s future, much emphasizes would be taken on it. In order to have a fair environment in the pre-college education, combine the local feature with part-unified national curriculum is a good way.
