Technology creates more problems than it solves, and may threaten or damage the quality of life.

Technology is neither only a simple tool nor a completely subjective living, which determines that its impact on mankind cannot be merely attributed to itself, in a larger part, technology alters human society to better or worse depends on how human beings make use of it. Thus for a long time it is sensible to call for an optimal balance between the advantages and disadvantages technology brings about.

When thinking about the threshold problems exist in contemporary society, such as consistent war, awful famine, climate change, environmental pollution, species extinction and the like, people tend first to blame technology. Admittedly, it is undeniable that technology has dramatically changed the world from a simple and primitive ecological-balanced one to another full of controversy. Without advanced innovations of new weapons, the world may be much more peaceful; without overloaded fuel burning, there may be less carbon dioxide and other toxic gases releasing, the world may not be as warm as present and the ozone layer will not be broken; Without new synthesis of so many new chemical substances, the air, water and soil may be much clearer; Without new effective machines, the forests and wet lands may not be destroyed so quickly, and the wild plants and animals may not disappear too fast. It is true that technology causes too many problems we've never confronted before.

However, these problems are not merely caused by technology alone; more basically, they are brought about by the people who abuse it. It is more likely that the human's ambitions and insensibility of conquering nature and standing on the top of the world, origining from the human nature, make these questions happen. If men can constrain their greed for power, wealth and reputation, fewer wars would occur; If men can lower down their pursuit for immediate interests, they may concern more about the environment and the next generation, fewer living species may die out. Thus technology directly leads to these problems through the origination of human's abuse.

On the other hand, compared with the negative aspects with the use of technology, what technology contributes positively to the society can not be replaced. Human civilization has long promoted by the development of technology, not limited to the material abundance, but extended to the enrichment of mental change. Since the Industry Revolutions brought about the improvement of productivity, people have enjoyed striking alteration of living. For example, the invention of computer mostly helps solving complicated calculation and many other problems, even affects the way of thinking. The space technology not only extends the footprint of human in the universe, but it also satisfies people's imagination. Under these conditions, technology is solving problems instead of creating.

Furthermore, those questions brought about by technology may not be solved without technology itself. To reduce the global warming, the world should unite to improve the current fuel through low-carbon technology and seek new energy from hydrogen or nuclear power; to rescue wildlife, the government should make efforts to make the animal living better and conserve valuable genes through gene technology. These resolutions can be better relied on the utilization of technology.

As technology is indispensible in human lives, it is not whether technology creates more problems than it solves matters, but how we take usage of the advantages and meanwhile reduce the disadvantages to the largest extent really plays the key role. With appropriate application of technology in case of constraint of ambition, human life may become more preferable.
