TOPIC: ISSUE70 - "In any profession-business, politics, education, government-those in power should step down after five years. The surest path to success for any enterprise is revitalization through new leadership."

The leaders, no matter in academic, politics, or other professions play a critical role in the world. While senior leaders master a great deal of experiences, the new leaders can bring more fresh energy into the enterprises.

The senior leaders, always staying at the position for a period of time, are capable of adequate experience. Usually, they know how to deal with the daily affairs more efficiently, how to communicate with others wisely, how to response to emergency quickly. For instance, in the lab, the leader or the boss is more often than not controlling the destiny of the lab. Other researches who have problems or troubles will ask the boss for help, because they know that the boss once was a green-hand too, and he went the way successfully solved most of the problem facing him, so he must have plenty of experience to guide them into a proper destination as well as avoid inevitable mistakes. That is what the leaders usually do-- to give suggestions to the fresh and make the team into triumph.

But this is not always the whole facets. When the leaders stay at the position too long, they will be exhausted, no matter the intelligence or the energy. We can always see the leaders become less and less willing to listen to others' recommendations in the film or in the history. It is likely that the leaders need some rests to sort up their mind or to open their mind to let other advice come in. It is the high time that a new leader should come up and replace the old one. The new leader is like a new-born baby, compared with the old one who always has trembling hands and wrinkly face. The fresh usually have countless energy or enthusiasm to make their ambitious goals come true. These are the key to the success. The characters like open-mindedness, enthusiasm make them a symbol of hope and a mark of success.

I admit that the new leaders are like the impetus to the sleeping giant, which makes it wake to make a progress. However, in some special situations, the senior ones cannot or must not be replaced by the new leader. For instance, Roosevelt was a greater leader who stayed at the position of President for 4 terms. Why didn't he give the position to the new ones? Because during the world war two, the political situations were changing all the times, the society was in a mess, and the relationship between the countries was so complicated that a new leader cannot deal with the problems facing him. Roosevelt was wise and courageous to be the President to lead the United States to the safe harbor. I cannot imagine if a new leader took the place of him, what would happen to the United State or even the whole world.

Finally, I must say that no matter a senior leader or a new one, he has his own characters to make a difference to his fields. Most of time, we need the senior ones’ experiences as well as the new ones’ passionate to approach to success. There is still some time which has its own solution to the problem. It all depends, actually.
