50.TOPIC:"In order to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level, all faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach."

The statement asserts that all faculty ought to go outside their academic world and take part in the activities that are related to their courses, so as to perfect the quality of instruction at the college and university level. I wholeheartedly agree with the statement.
Firstly, knowledge now has been closely connected. Only focusing on the area one is researching may hardly have anything to do with the course as well as the whole society. Subjects are divided into numerous small subjects. The area one is focusing on is much smaller than before. It signifies that if one doesn't go outside of the academic world, he or she would lose the larger picture, and what comes out might not be accepted by human. No one can hope to understand the human body by only inspecting one's own toe-nails. Useful conclusions and thus perhaps useful inventions must come by sharing among academies. Spending time working outside the academic world can substantiate the teachers and thus can do better on the courses they teach, which can also benefit the academy.
Secondly, in my experience as a student, faculty who are actively engaged in their fields come to class with fresh insights and a contagious excitement about the subject at hand, and can help students make more informed career decisions by keeping abreast with the changing demands of work. Moreover, they bring to their students practical, real-world examples of the principles and theories discussed in textbooks. Most students are facing a pressure of employment and puzzled by the foreground. They are in demand of a teacher who can bring information outside the academic world but relevant to what they are learning. Therefore, faculty should go outside the academic world.
On the other hand, going outside the academic world may receive an unexpected accomplishment. When one first get in a field, he or she may get rid of fixed thinking and look at things in a different point of view. This is likelihood of discovering new things. History is laden with new things discovery that turned out stunningly significant. 普朗克 used to be a historian. One day, when he read the history of physics, he found that there is a relationship between wavelength and frequency. So He turned to the area of physics. After ten years research, he finally come out with a famous law and win the Nobel Prize as well. It signifies that going outside the academic world may not only benefits subject faculty is in but also have a positive effect on other faculty.
Going outside the academic world can substantiate teachers themselves and also students major in the course as well as win some unexpected prize. All these three virtues can help improve the quality of instruction at the college and university dramatically and consequently benefit the whole society.
