TOPIC: ARGUMENT13 - The following appeared in a memo from the chief executive of a video game company.

"We have recently been offered the opportunity to buy the rights to produce a video game based on the soon-to-be-published children's book "Squirrel Power," by Peter Wood. While the cost of the rights is substantial and will place economic constraints on our company in the short-term, there are two reasons that the purchase of these rights will undoubtedly be a wise investment. First, Wood's last three books have been best sellers and the movie based on his first book was highly profitable. Second, the popular characters and story line in "Squirrel Power" will save us time in developing our video game, thereby reducing our costs."

The argument is well-presented, but not thoroughly well-reasoned. By make a reason why we purchase the rights to produced a video game based on the soon-to-be published childern's book, arguer elicits two reasons, but none of them support that sufficiently.

Flaws reside in the first evidence. Last three books have been best sellers don't ensure that this book will be also in good sell. What if they are already boring with the style of his way of telling stories? What if there shows up competitors whose books are more attractive? Being best sellers doesn't mean that you can always be.

Here comes next. The based on movie on his first book which is highly profitable doesn't mean it also can work out in video game, after all they are two things different from producing process to products in the end. People may are interested in the movie because it can satisfy them with vivid vision, but to push them to play the game, it needs more. The games should contains the exciting plots, wonderful pictures, interesting  game plans and the like. It is more complicated beyond simple following the original book.

Take a look at the other reason. From what we said before, we know that the popular characters and story line won't save time in developing the video games, also not make reduce costs. In order to attract plays, you need to make the games more interesting, instead of just copying the books which has been read by readers possibly several times. Once the characters in the books and story lines in the book are not fit for game video, you will need more time to modify them. Moreover, money will follow the process. The more you put in it, the more money you need to cost. It betrays your initial goal entirely.

Turn back on the cost to buy the rights of video games, we need to take much risk and with some constraints, if we can not benefits from it, it will eventually results in disaster in our daily managing. Comparing the blurring future it can bing us, the risk is just clearly standing there.

In order to avoid the irreversible damage, we need to be discrete about the decision. Apart from these unconvincing illustrations, more evidence are needed to analyze if the soon-to-be book can sell well and if the video game can attract more customers with a lower cost.
